Safety Razor Vs Cartridge Razor Quick Comparison

Geofatboy discusses and demonstrates some of the Pros and Cons of shaving with safety razors vs a shave with a cartridge razor. Are 5 Blades better than 1? Cartridge razor blades pull, tug, and cut hairs below the skin, resulting in ingrown hairs. A safety razor with a sharp blade slices through the hair cleanly. Can you save Money? Shaves per blade and cost with a safety razor vs a cartridge razor comparison. Is the lubricating strip effective or is it better to mix lather and apply it with a shaving brush to the entire face? Brushing on shaving lather is a the Zen Moment of the shave. What does the vibrating feature do? Is it effective or a useless gimmick? Which is better for the environment? Millions of cartridges are tossed into land fills every year. Safety razor blades can be recycled. A cartridge razor feels like a toy in your hand while a safety razor feels more lite a tool which is made out of metal. Take a few extra minutes and enjoy the overall shaving experience with a safety razor, lather and a shaving brush.

I came across one of your videos a little over a yr ago Geo and decided to go down the rabbit hole. I can't ever imagine going back to cartridge razors ever again. My wife thinks I need therapy because of all the wet shaving products I've bought and accumulated. I use to hate to shave, and now I can't wait to shave. It's my "pamper my face" time now. Once you find the perfect combo of razor, blade, technique, soap, etc and achieve a BBS shave you'll never go back. Thanks for all the videos, tips, products, awesome customer service, and fast shipping Geo.

Agree!! Ingrow hairs, hitch, red skin..all the things I had with cartridge razors. I hated shaving. Once I change to safety razors never had any problem except some nicks :-) one of the best changes I made in my life. I love to shave now.

Being introduced to safety razors and traditional wet shaving turned shaving from an irritating chore (which resulted in more irritation days after the shave with cartridge razors) to a true form of comfort and therapy for me. Now when I shave, it is MY time in the bathroom: the time to relax, unwind, and just enjoy a lovely shave with rich, fragrant lathers and smooth shaving action. This way of shaving will truly change your life if you let it, as it changed mine for the better. 😊

I have only been DE shaving for 2 months now. It´s wild how I enjoy shaving now, It´s an awesome experience! With cartridges I never got bbs because it was impossible to go against the grain with those because I got so much irritation from them. With DE shaving I´ve learned that my skin is very sensitive but as my technique has improved, going against the grain even on my most sensitive area, the neck, is doable and feels great! For me the best shave is with a Muhle R41 GS with a feather blade. It is so efficient that I have to do very few passes to get absolute bbs every time. Sure, I need to be careful with it because of the aggression but it is a challenge that I welcome every 3 days that I shave and on every shave I get better at using it. Cheers Geo once again for providing consistent awesome content for new and experienced wetshavers alike!

Great comparison today! I have something to add. A de razor stays MUCH cleaner between each shave than a cartridge razor. This is a big part of why I gave up cartilage razors. The amount of skin and jell and scum that gets stuck between the blades is really gross! Cartridge razors are supposed to be good for several shaves but after the first time be I never want to see the disgusting thing again! By contrast, my safety razor has a much better lather channels which rinse clean after every pass.

Geo, I've got to sincerely thank you for your videos, about 2 weeks ago I had run through my large stock of DSG cartridges and went to discover they stopped carrying the old style and had started looking for something else. I came across a very old video from you on safety razors and it totally converted me, I ordered a full shaving setup from you the same day and since I was 13, after 13 years of using cartridge razors I'll never do so again, it's truly a life changing shave man, thank you for showing me how and why.

I agree to every single point you made! I have been using safety razors now for over a year and will never ever go back to any cartridge razor whatsoever!

Hi Geo.
Definitely a DE Safety Razor for me Geo. There better for your skin, the blades are cheaper and you get loads of variety of blades to choose from. There time tested from the 40's, and there still going. You can still use the the vintage razors that date back from the 40's/50's. Plus, there are so many safety razors to choose from. Great to collect. You get safety razors that can give you option to have a mild or aggressive shave. Also the looks of safety razors are stunning, Quality made real works of art. Propper shaving tool.

The DE Safety Razors, if you do it properly give's you a time tested comfortable babby smooth finish shave.
The Cartridge Razors, if you do it properly give's you a very uncomfortable and c**p shave.

Take care Geo.

🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 Wow Geo, I never thought about the environmental impact of disposable razor blades and razors. I’m usually not the most environmentally conscious person and but that had a direct effect on me. You da man. I’m in NYC for the weekend and I’m checking out both Pasteur locations. Wow I don’t know if you’ve been, but what an experience😂😂😂😂

Thanks for the comparison Geo. Your channel is one of the reasons I switched to DE shaving. As a guy with heavy beard growth who only shaves 2-3 times a week if I skipped a shave I just dreaded the tugging and pulling of shaving with a cartridge. A safety razor just cuts right through the thickest of whiskers with ease and leaves me with a much better shave. Thanks Geo.

I had the vibrating razor. Refill blades were between $17 & $24. I ended up using 1 blade for two sometimes 3 months. Didn’t want to spend the money. Glad I switched.

Well I'm glad we got that straight! 😉 I started out wet shaving with a Schick Injector and like a lot of folks gradually transitioned to other ways because of peer pressure with disastrous results only to return to wet shaving to correct a terrible wrong. For years Norelco, Phillips and Gillette among others were the enemies with electric monsters and cartridges. In my thirties I realized what I was missing and never looked back, pulled out the Super Adjustable 109 and Personna blades. Soap was hit and miss but I managed until the renaissance saved me from the inevitable. Thanks Geo for another uplifting video and PSA👍👍

Thank you for this comparison. I’m sold on the old fashioned double edge safety razor.

Thank you for shaving videos, I learned a lot from you. Greetings from Serbia!

Idk what it is but the DE Henson medium razor and the DE razor from viking revolution never cut my hair. They always tug and pull and the whole process is long.

The gillette cartridge razors effortlessly cut hair. No tugging, only cutting. And even the single- blade backside of those cartridges cut far better than the DE razors. The feather blade is really sharp but the angle just isn't working on the DE razors. It's about 5x faster and easier to use these.

I did my first shave with Rockwell 6S and I can say I'm not really comfortable yet, but hopefully will get there. Cartridge razor is for now way more enjoyable for me. Thank you for great videos Geo!

I would like to add another point in favor of a DE razor, it's easier to shave those difficult spots in your face in comparison to a cartridge razor. I have a small birthmark around my chin area, and when I used to shave with a cartridge, I would cut myself most of the time. However, with a DE razor, I can carefully go over my birthmark without cutting myself.

I find it interesting that you are comfortable with the idea of 5-15 shaves with a DE razor. So often people say they replace their DE razors after 2-4 shaves MAX. My experience has been that after 3-4 shaves, the razor cuts more comfortably. That being said, a cartridge is great for 'cleaning up' those final tough areas.
