Ubisoft might not be closing accounts but Minecraft will be closing paid accounts in September if you haven't migrated to a Microsoft account, which only became required in 2022!
If you haven't played in over a year there's a good chance your account will be gone in a couple months. Not sure why there's nowhere near as much community outrage on that one.

That poor Ubisoft support account handler just wasn't ready to handle all of that scrutiny, it would someone out of the white house official communications department to craft something for him that it wouldn't be taken out of context.

I did notice in Ubisoft's wording, it stated that your account may become inactive after the time... but can't be deleted if you purchased games "through the Ubisoft store"... which would indicate that your account may still be up for deletion after inactivity, even if you purchased games only via another service (like steam or epic)

Like myself, all games I have in Ubisoft, were either given out free, or gotten via Epic or Steam

Finally someone got the GDPR right. I was kind of missing that on other videos that handled this topic.
Besides that, I get why they all ignore the facts in this case. gamers are in a "political discourse" with Ubisoft and the whole Gaming Industrie. We lost ownership at some point and you can't even buy games on disc anymore. Furthermore the designers ship bad products because they can "fix them later" when the customer already bought a broken game.
This whole discussion is not about facts, it's an outcry to raise awareness and hopefully shape the consumer legislation so that we finally can own what we bought again.

I love the way you take a deeper view of things, exploring all the possibilities. If more people did that, maybe society would have fewer problems

If you don't login in your Ubisoft account for 6 months, Ubisoft converts it in to NFT and sells on NFT marketplaces/

Twitter users try not to create drama and misinformation for 2 minutes challenge (IMPOSSIBLE)

This is one of the reasons I dislike social media. So much misinformation out there. People don't care to cross check or try to word things carefully. It's all for virality.

Thio is getting closer each day to being my go-to for tech news. He's a better tech journalist than most main stream sites/publications. Theo's ability to dig through the rubbish and pull out the points we need to take away and action on is just refreshing in this age of information confusion.

this non controversy is a direct consequence of having terms and conditions that if printed on paper would use half of the trees left in the amazon

Ubisoft is BAD!!! I'm from India and since only Steam offers regional pricing so we can get games cheaper on Steam Store. But Ubisoft pulled games off Steam and even after Far Cry released I was hopeful but recent games (Mirage or Motorfest) didn't come to Steam so same probably would be for Avatars game so reluctantly I bought it off Ubisoft Store despite it costs twice as Steam. I mean literally, we can get Ultimate Edition from Steam for the price of Standard Edition on Ubisoft Store. Anyway, I bought the Standard Edition but later decided to get the Ultimate Edition as I had always bought Ubisoft Games on sale on Steam for very cheap so why get this Standard. I requested refund. Ubisoft sent a mail saying refund approved. But it turned out that instead of putting money back into my card they deducted the money out of my card. Seriously WTF!!! Never faced such ridiculous issue on Steam. UBISOFT SUCKS!!!

Sony and Microsoft say in their terms of service that they do this too but I didn't login to my Xbox account in almost 10 years and its still active today so it doesn't seem like something they actually enforce.

Far too many people seem to enjoy being enraged - it's instant gratification. Critical thinking along with patient evaluation are in very short supply, because they are the polar opposite of instant gratification.
I think the anti-DRM account actually was attention-seeking and either not too bright or deliberately dishonest.
Anyway, social media companies and broadcast/print news media companies all share a very similar economic model. It depends very much on generating public outrage, which draws the biggest crowds, which in turn draws advertisers. Bad news and angry mobs are profitable, so there's little incentive for Social and News media owners to curb false and manipulated stories.

4:46 Correct.

F ubisoft i usually agree, but this time it was the community that misunderstood the thing.
They were never going to delete your account forever if you have games.

Ubisoft could have resolved this by having support quite literally say "if you have purchased games on that account, then this will not happen" or something to that degree.

Communicating the actual message is something Ubisoft weirdly struggles to do, which makes them look like they're trying to do something scummy like take away purchased games.

Thank you for mentioning stories like this. I think stories like this are examples of the way we react to the news in general these days. It seems like people will jump to a conclusion about some out of context situation and then start spreading the assumption they made (because they will get a lot of engagement) as if its the whole truth, when the reality is more nuanced and oftentimes, the assumption is just entirely wrong. The way people are incentivized to spread sensational stories even if they are not true makes the truth really hard to find. Thanks for making content like this!

I think a lot of people are focusing too much on the account deletion part of this and missing the forest for the trees. The problem isn't that an account with purchases on it can be deleted, regardless of method, it's that there's no way to retain those purchases _after_ the account has been deleted. If ubisoft just gave you a CD key for any games you purchases, then this wouldn't be an issue. You could just save the keys and then use them to reinstall the game or add it to a new account in case your original was deleted.

I always used to pronounce its name as YOU-BEE-SOFT and now, every time he says OOO-BEE-SOFT, it is throwing me off a bit.
