DreamBound - a Kirby RPG Prequel [Demo 1]

夢の物語 [ＤＥＭＯ １] ： Ｖｓ． ｔｈｅ Ｄａｒｋ Ｓｔａｒ
"DreamBound: a Kirby RPG Prequel" is a pixel art fan game based on the untold tales which happened before Kirby's Dream Land.
You'll follow little Dedede and his friends on their journey to stop Dark Matter with the Dream power of the Star Rod! Its battle system is a mix between Mother 3 and Paper Mario.
This is actually just an animation, not a real game, but if you've been fooled by watching it, well, I'm glad the illusion worked!

[Demo 1] : Dark Nebula
Halfway past the game, the team is fighting the second portal which contains Dark Nebula. Lilili's not here because she was captured by the Desert bandits, so the fight is kind of tough without her powers.

This video is a fan animation by Romain Campargue based on the Kirby franchise: a video game series owned by Nintendo/HAL Laboratory.
The background is a modified version of a battle background from the game Oddity (when it was still called Mother 4)
Music: "The Star Conquering Traveler -FINAL SHOWDOWN-" by Kirbio
Sound Effects come from several Kirby games (mainly Return to Dream Land)

I love how this seemingly harkens to the theory that meta knight and dedede had fought dark nebula in the past, as to explain why it was sealed in a chest that they both had in their possessions during kirby squeak squad. I think a kirby RPG would be perfect for telling a prequel story like that!

The five stages of grief after finding out this isn't actually a game:

Denial: There's no way this is just an animation, look how fluid the gameplay is!
Anger: How can it look so deceptively realistic? This is criminal!
Bargaining: I'll contribute $200 to a kickstarter, just make this happen please!
Depression: HAL will probably never make something like this, they're too focused on the platformer demographic...
Acceptance: Though it may never be real, this sure is one amazing animation, and I'm glad I had the opportunity to watch it. :)

Holy SMOKES the sprite work is impeccable, Dark Nebula and its Negative Beam are fantastically trippy and I love the little animation and sound flairs for the party members!
I was honestly fooled at first that this was an actual game, there's clearly a lot of effort and love put into this and it's incredibly inspiring. :D

I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. The reference to past Nintendo rpgs like the Mother series with the use of the battle system/layout & the rolling health bar, and Dededee's hammer attack using the Paper Mario timing mechanic! Meta Knight's attack being reactionary like the samurai mini-game in Kirby Super Star and Bandana Dee's support move is such a smart idea???! Thank you for sharing your amazing ideas with the world 💖💖
