My brother used to be on fire for Jesus. But when he went to college, he went to a church that was manipulative and abusive. I don’t know the complete story but that’s part of it. Nothing like our church back home.

He’s hasn’t been to church in a long time. It’s difficult to talk to him about this because of his personality and I don’t want to push him away. So I pray for him.

Brought up to believe in Jesus in the 70’s and 80’s. Went on about my life, not rejecting, but not accepting either. I just knew there is more than what we see, now let me live my life. 2020. 3 years of me questioning/screaming at everyone and everything.
A wonderful wife who simply suggested, “let’s try Church”. I’m all in. God led me right back to him. And he did it through my anger in him, and in man. I’m done questioning him anymore.

The simple truth may come down to pride. So much good comes from a humble heart

I quit going to church in my teens because nothing ever resonated with me and no one ever asked if I understood anything. To me it was the standard stories, Moses, Noah's arc and Jesus. Reading the Bible was difficult and I had a hard time understanding. Now in my late 30's I'm back in Church, volunteering and reading my Bible. Am I a great Christian? Not even close. But I hope I have enough time left to be deserving of a seat in heaven.

like he said, there is usually a story behind it...or anger hurt, disappointment etc.

I'm an atheist simply because there's no good reason to believe a god exists. And if that god cared about whether I knew it existed, it would know exactly what to do to convince me. Which may be yet to happen. Or never will.

I rejected the faith because no one obeyed and I didn't want to be a hypocrite. Until Jesus came woke me up and bathed me in his spirit. Now my Lord is my teacher the holyspirit aka Jesus Chist 🙏

I was born into a strict Christian home to missionary parents. I went to church multiple times a week, and I attended a private Christian school for 12 years. I always questioned Christianity, and when I asked questions that challenged Christianity, I was punished by my parents and disciplined by the private Christian school. I have read the Bible cover to cover. That's the first reason why I don't believe in Christianity. When I read the contradictions, inaccuracies, and things that didn't sit right with me, I decided to research the Bible and christianity as a faith, and I did my due diligence.
I am an atheist now, and it was the single best decision I've made apart from asking my wife to marry me and bringing our kids into this world. I was constantly being told what a horrible sinner I was and that I didn't deserve anything UNLESS I put my life in the Christian God's hands. Once I shed those horrible ways of thinking, I have thrived. And I have a congenital anomaly that is excruciatingly painfully taking my ability to walk. That means before I was born, while in my Christian mother's womb, I developed an extremely rare mutation in my spinal column and spinal cord. It required major spinal surgery that lasted for 7+ hours, and now I'll lose my ability to walk. I won't walk my daughter down the aisle. I can't play sports with my sons. But that's okay, I've accepted my condition. You don't know how many times I've heard "god works in mysterious ways" when battling this anomaly. If a god is willing to make someone deal with difficulties like mine, or childhood cancers, child starvation, and preventable diseases just so someone can say when things go HORRIBLY WRONG "oh dear, god works in mysterious ways" then I want zero parts of that religion.

Brainwashing and indoctrination are very real and extremely dangerous things that transpire in religion, especially Christianity. Read your holy book cover to cover, do the research, and look at arguments from every side, not just the believer's point of view. Make sure you believe in your religion for the right reasons, not just because you were born into it, or forced into it. Most importantly, QUESTION EVERYTHING!

In the “validation” scenario how could I help someone? I think some people I know are in this “category” of why they don’t believe and I want to help them, thanks to anyone that will answer this.

God bless you all

There were so many people who made it so easy for me to want to leave Christianity. I was abused as a child. Mocked and harassed and used as an "example of a non-believer" simply for how i dressed (i was into goth/alt fashion as a pre-teen) but i was lucky because my parents (adoptive) not only stood up for me, but showed me what God's love is really like. And thats one of the reasons i stayed.

So, in other words, people are either hurt, have been lied to, or are full of pride.

The "how" is their story to tell, and that's when it's most important to listen, with the intent to HEAR and UNDERSTAND them, so that our listening state can leave our ears open to also hear how the Holy Spirit wants to move through us to reach that person.

If i wasnt indoctrinated into belief, i would have never had to leave. Most people who have left for intellectual reasons never started to believe because of intellectual reasons.
