In this video we share tips on how to spot fake Facebook accounts. There are people who would like to steal personal information, and they often try to use fake Facebook accounts to do it. If you get a friend request from someone you don't know, use these steps to help you decide if it is a scammer:

Photos: Does the Facebook profile picture look genuine? Do their other photos fit together, or does it look like random magazine photos?

Friends: How many friends do they have? Do you have any friends in common?

Posts: Do they post often? Do they write them, or is it just shared content from other pages?

Messages: Did they send a strange message like "You look so beautiful" or "You've won $1000!!" It's probably a scam

Google: Search their name, do they have a LinkedIn account? Another social media page?

REMEMBER: these are just guidelines. If it seems suspicious, better to be safe and deny their friend request or block them.

I would also add that if they message you right away that's never a good sign regardless if it's just saying hello.

Also with step 1 is to look at the date of the time they post their photo. If they don’t have any photos but 1 or 2 then they are a scammer.

Never “Friend” someone you don’t know. Your FB account is your personal photo album.

Doing a reverse image lookup up of a profile picture is a great help.

I usually can tell if it’s a fake account by the interactions. I get so many really pretty girls on my Facebook suggestions, but all the pics they posted have 3 likes, maybe 1 comment. Usually good looking girls have tons of likes, with friends or family commenting a ton.

I already knew that I was talking to a fake account. The photo was a girl. A cebritity from Thailand. But I like to talk to him/her I'd like to keep his/her acting. I'm still finding evidence if she/he is a fake. I can't just follow my instincts. I might hurt a real person...

As an American I must say, you guys are doing
God's work. If only our government paid some
fking attention to these problems.
Adriannotch I am sure you've heard this
enough times already but we, the honest people
of America, wholeheartedly support your
venture and pray that this comes to an end
soon.

Scammers love to troll pages that attract women and they send the same stupid copy and paste messages how they want to be friends and all they want to do is get you onto some kind of app to talk to you in private and give you some sob story about why they need money

If they steal the name and photos of a popular actor, let's use Daniel Craig as an example and pretend they're divorced or single, it's a fake account, Wikipedia is a good thing to confront these impostors with.
A common line celebrity scammers use is "I divorced my husband/wife because he/she cheated on me."

They should show when the account was created.
Real people generally have accounts that were made years ago.
Fake accounts are generally made recently.

Sounds like I'm a perfect candidate that falls under fake account because: 1) I hide all my info from public because I don't want to risk it, 2) don't have over 100 friends because I rather have quality over quantity and list of friends are hidden from public eyes, 3) Don't care too much posting or sharing my life story on fb. Lol

Their date of birth is completely different? So is this a scammer? And they have 3 Facebook accounts & Facebook thinks it’s not a scammer?!?!

Better search on tineye.com
I had a message from a fake account and uploaded his photo on Google with no results but on tineye.com it showed that photo with many different identities on different platforms.
Just upload the suspected photo on tineye.com.

Wish we could tell the real users that someone is impersonating them.
