EVERY transmission should have a drain plug in the pan.

This guy is ripping through this transmission and explaining everything like it's a walk in the park!

This guy makes it look like he can rebuild my dropped off transmission in 45 min to an hour.

I don't have transmission, but I watched this video with awe and read every comment and reply. Now I will have to get up early tomorrow to make up the time. Internet is great, but one can let it steal your productivity.👍

No matter how many of these trans videos i watch, I'm still amazed at how many parts an Auto trans has in it! my 4L60e is in need of a rebuilt now (no 3/4), cooling line blew though.

Thanks for this video, guys. Got an '01 Chevy Suburban 1500 5.3L that lost reverse and shifts hard from 2-3 and 3-4. Will definitely check these things out to see what we can do here in Virginia. Have a great day.

Almost 350, 000 miles on the original 4L60E transmission in my 96 Caprice. Been using Dexron VI for years and I change my fluid and filter regularly.

If you look at that input drum that holds all the clutch packs. The input drum has the long input shaft coming out of the front of it. This input shaft is pressed Into that drum. However: where it is pressed in, can leak and cause a loss of pressure to the 3-4 clutch pack. Sonnax sells a kit to reinforce the drum and input shaft to hold it in there better. The part of the sonnax kit that makes it not leak is the fact that green loctite is used when the input shaft is pressed Into the drum. The green loctite is what seals it back up and many of these leak. Yours is probably leaking....there is more info on this so look it up.

Bottom line. If you are rebuilding this or fixing your 3-4 clutch pack problem. Take the input shaft out of the 3-4 drum and loctite it back in there. Should take care of that problem.

Changing the trans fluid every 60k will help increase the life of the transmission. Get a updated pan for cheap with a Drain plug to help with this. Makes life easier.

$20 you can add so much life to this trans. He talked about the 3-4 apply seal hardening. This is caused by heat. Your trans run through the factory trans cooler at the radiator and sometimes has a factory external trans cooler in the heavier trucks, but it usually does not have an Xtra trans cooler.
You want an aftermarket trans cooler in the radiator trans cooler. Why after?
Because the transmission will be at whatever the thermostat is on the radiator. If you’re engine thermostat is 190° or higher. Your trans will be 190° or higher. We don’t want that. We want 170°

still keep your original trans cooler at the radiator. You keep that and run both the original and the aftermarket after it

This will make the trans run cooler and cool it back down to below what the engine thermostat is. It’s needs to be run after the radiator cooler on the fluid return back to the transmission. Any cooler will help.

Sonnax makes the best sun shell replacement and has a long list of other parts to keep this transmission alive. If you have a 700r4 or a 4l60e or any other transmission for that matter. Sonnax usually has upgrade parts to make it last longer. With the has lot of upgrade parts. By the time your done. 1/4 of the parts would be sonnax parts.

Either a better cooler

Well all these videos I’ve been watching are very spot on but now I’m hoping that I won’t have to go through all that with my P1810 code. I’ve dropped my pan waiting on the valve to come in. All the seals were broken and three of the five pressure plates don’t click. The name of the part is probably wrong so I mentioned the code. I have purchased a transfer case from Monster and it’s going great. The motor is a 5.3 in this 2003 Silverado

330k on mine...change fluid every year and keep Lucas no slip. Hot rod kids burn them out. Drive easy they last. Simple.
