THIS MIGHT BE WHY YOUR 4L60E SHIFTS HARD FROM 1 TO 2 GEAR! (Atleast a very common problem).

Fixing my 4L60E Auto transmission, the problem was hard shift from 1 to 2 gear, but otherwise it was good. This worked for me, if you do it, then you do it at your own risk.

Fitting 35s on my 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD with leveling keys.

to all the uninformed gm revised the 1-2 accumulator piston and went to 1 short stiff spring this improves shift performance also this is why the piston is down in the housing this should be done on all 4l60e type transmissions except the early ones with an inverted piston

That rattle sound is the spring that you forgot to put in and you should have replaced the plastic accumalator with the aluminum one

An old way to get oil filters off is to spray them with brake parts cleaner then take a shop rag and take them off.

You have to have the 1-2 accumulator springs or your going to kill your first gear clutches. If you don't like the firmness of the 1-2 shift reseting transmission adaptives can help or changing the small 1-2 piston shift spring to a lighter one. Transmission adaptive normal start increasing line pressure as it notices slip do to normal clutch wear to prolong the life of the Transmission. LEAVING THE SPRINGS OUT OF THE 1-2 ACCUMULATOR WILL BURN YOUR TRANS UP LEAVING YOU STUCK WITH ONLY 2ND AND 3RD GEAR TO GET YOU HOME.

The rattle he heard is the small spring in it...they have two springs and the new 1 2 accumulater he put in there is no way it has springs in it cause you can’t compress it that far and like another person said the accumulater is supposed to be flush with the top of the housing...now the transmission is going to need to have a new band put in it soon...I rebuild transmissions for a living and it has to have the 2 springs in it

Did the new housing have the 2 springs that the old had inside.. that what the noise was when you shook it

Yeah u gotta take that back apart and shoot some compressed air into feed hole it will pop out the piston. There's supposed to be a rattle of the springs inside someone sold you a housing with no springs. And if your gonna go through that don't use plastic pistons again....good luck

Great video. You might want to edit out the diet comment. More importantly, Sonnax makes an accumulator upgrade that replaces the OE plastic part with an aluminum one that will not wear out. That way, you won't have to keep replacing the plastic one.

I know this is a old video and you probably already figured it out but, that Trans filter looked like one for a shallow pan?! You have a deep pan 4x4!

Thank you very much, exact problem I been having

You need those springs in the 1-2 accumulator!!! If anything you need a little heavier spring or shim the old one for performance.

Bro, if the springs were in the new accumulator the piston would be up almost flush with the top, New springs would be same length and size. im watching this 99% sure you assembled it without the springs and had to tear it all apart after you started the truck and test drove

Dude you put that part without the two springs. the noise you heard from the old accumulator was the small spring inside. that is normal. I bet when you saw other videos of people doing the same job you did, you said. I fucked up.. everyone puts those springs in it and you are the only video I saw that you did not, do you ever think who is right and wrong?

Old video but there it looks like you installed the filter for shallow pan. The half metal one is for the shorter flat pan. You need the longer filter or will have some issues when the pickup is uncovered.

A bottle of marvel mystery oil in with the new fluid in my 60e made my hard 1-2 and 2-3 slipping go away.

I need to try this the 1-2 shift at WOT is so bad. They rebuild the trans but i think they did a crap job on the 06 here. Has like 200k miles now
