WOW! $30.00 for a SIX PACK isn’t a deal breaker when you need a guaranteed fire starter. Would have given a Hell of a lot more for that two years ago when I went thru the ice. Didn’t have a choice about going onto the ice-a matter of life or death to another, we saved the individual but we were both hypothermic within a minute. Friends were able to extract us from the pond, but I have NEVER BEEN SO FREAKING COLD IN MY LIFE! They tried for 15 minutes before finally getting a fire started (felt more like 5 hrs). Lesson I learned- get the best you can afford when it comes to life saving gear and equipment.

If you need to understand the concept of I need a fire right now, I recommend reading Jack London’s “To Build a Fire”.

You can also get a 3 pack at your local Tractor Supply... a few dollars more @ $19.99

This would be great for starting a smoke signal in a search/rescue scenario.

Dave road and railroad flares use red phosphorous not white and that is basically a 30 minute railroad flare in a box!! and as far as road flares go they ain't cheap anymore either i looked at some at ace hardware here a while back and they're almost 4 bucks a pop!!!

WE were kayaking around Kuiu Island in SE Ak. It was so wet we had to use road flare to start a fire. This reminds me of that experience.

We carry one of these and a road flare on our snowmobile for checking the traps on our remote trapline. We end up using them once every couple of years when we get stuck in overflow (slush) and need a fire now. They are handy and work well.

Is it waterproof for storage? My dad would use the railroad flares when we were in the Okanagan hunting muleys in late winter. He would take me out of school for a week regardless what the teachers would say. He is a good dad
I miss him dearly.

I carry a pack of these on my skidoo up here in Northern Alberta. A life saver!

I always give my buddies a Mora companion for Christmas. I'm going to mix some of these in too.

I saw these on the shelf at a store here and thought the same thing. Great one time thing to have. Don’t use them in a fire place indoors unless you’re ready for some smoke. But they are cool for sure

FYI, all sold out on Amazon less the 3 pack at $30+, so over $10 each. I winter camp and ice fish in AK so this is a must have for me. Safer than carrying a liquid fuel bottle.
