If you don't have a wire, you can use longer pieces of wood and bury them a little bit in the ground.

Tip, place a small pebble on each piece that are all about the same size and it creates an air space to allow the flames to keep burning and wont damp down the fire.

Great stuff. Use 3 or 4 flat stones to give you a gap between the cup and the log for a little breathing space. Works well. Thanks!

Swedish torch, all night. Simple to learn and it could save your life. Mini version very useful as well

This can also keep a small shelter sustainably warm enough to survive longer if you don't have much dry wood. Making several of these and just boiling water until you're out of wood could keep your shelter above freezing for hours longer than if you just burned the single piece of wood

When I was in the Boy Scouts Troop, 444 I was taught a lot of things I could use I was in the field camping. This is brilliant thank you sir for this idea it will come in handy one day. I’m sure of it from San Diego California a former Boy Scout.

Directly covering the flat top of the Swedish Torch with the pot could potentially choke the fire out. Raising the pot just above the flame with a few small stones will allow for better air flow and a slightly larger cook flame.

Smart idea. You are concentrating the heat directly under the pot and not wasting anything.

Thank You for this Great Wilderness Tip, and it's logical knowledge.

I typically don't mess with wire, scratch out a bit of a hole, drop her in, that way when you are done with the torch you can knock it apart and salvage as much of the wood/charred material as possible for your next fire

ancient nomadic trbes had one person known as the fire carrier, they carried fire so the tribe could have fire for game and warmth - their method was very similar to this method.

Its always fascinating to me how much bushcraft and survival knowledge we've lost over just a few years 😔

Love ya videos man. A lot of them remind me of Boy Scouts and the multi day hiking trips we would take in the wilderness.

Fabulous memories of making Swedish torches when I was a teenager (and older)in my local woods with a few friends, I used to make self feeding fires too, great times sometimes in the middle of winter, one time another friend came with us, had a few too many step 2’s and proceeded to put enough wood for two days that I’d collected a couple of days before, on the fire, he got sent to fetch more at three in the morning because all the wood was gone and he was cold 🤦🏼‍♂️ aaaanyhow, great vid 🤘🏻😃🤘🏻

Love these skills that you share with us. I wish you could teach this in schools. Nothing builds confidence in a person like being self-sufficient. Thanks for sharing!
