As a seasoned hiker, I can confidently tell everyone here to save their money and just carry a lighter. They're cheap, water resistant, weigh next to nothing, good for several dozen night's fires, and - most importantly - are reliable in the hands of someone completely untrained in bush craft.

It’s made of Celluloid, the same thing that a lot of guitar picks are made of. I store guitar picks in my bug out bag. Y’all should try them. You don’t have to shave any off either. Fero rod strikes will light that card and the guitar picks directly.

Cellulose guitar picks work also. I carry a couple in my wallet for this purpose. EDIT: Celluloid, not cellulose. Had a brain fart

I keep a bit of fatwood, a ferro rod and striker in my bag but this is a lot more convenient
