I have both breeds. All three female. The GSD is 💯 the Alpha despite not being the largest or oldest.

My dad, everytime me and my sister asked for a dog he brought a german shepherd. In total for my Dad, he had 16 dogs and each and everyone of them being a german shepherd and he preferred the jet black one.

I've seen those puppies being sometimes dumb as a rock or smart enough to hide the pots they have broken.

I’ve worked so many GSD with behavioral problems, where as I’ve only worked one Rottweiler. Many shepherds require a more capable handler then is required by a Rottweiler. I tend to ascribe the issues to poor breeding practices accentuating the prey/herding drive as well as the “uncomfortable alertness” that is ever present in the GSD. Two of the shepherds were service and several were 100+ lbs. i believe they are victim to poor breeding practices, similar to what happened to many of the bully breeds by backyard breeders and various kennel clubs by constantly changing breed standards.

My first dog was a GSD boarder collie mix so I had an attraction to the breed but as the years went on I had to take a more pragmatic view of the degradation of the larger breed.
