I had a male German shepherd, about 100lbs. He once escorted a neighbors 12 year old boy to our back door, when the boy had jumped our back yard fence to get his ball. Bruno would not let the boy go back over the fence and brought him to us. Glad my dog had enough sense not to hurt him, because he did kill a small dog that came in our yard once, and other small animals. That's Bruno for ya...Smart dog! lived to 13 years. I say he was a 11 out of 10, great dog...

I've shared my life with German Shepherd Dogs for almost 50 years. Have trained (SAR) and bred them for some of those years. Several being donated to law enforcement agencies. Hands down the BEST breed of dog EVER!
I never want to live without at least one of these dogs, being right next to me.

German Shepherds are unlike any other dog in the way they bond with you and become your shadow.

Had a German Shepherd and he was my love. Very protective, checks the house thoroughly before we could walk into the house. Checked people at the door. Never bit anybody, he was so sweet.

I have had many many German Shepherd Dogs over the past 20 years. German Shepherd’s are so easy to train they seem to pick up on things the first time with out a problem. They also seem very very eager to please their humans and it puts a smile on their faces. My vote is for the German Shepherd

My shepherd was 134 lbs. and 28 inches at the shoulder. Beast! Smart as a whip, funny, even discerning.

I have had a rottie, a German shep, and a pit bull German shep hybrid. The thing to understand about a rotti vs a gsp that is the most important is that the gsp pretty much always obeys you. The rottie knows what you asked it to do, but may decide that is not what he wants, and ignore you . To me it was much easier to train both the pit bul, and the gsp then the rottie, they are the most stubborn and dominant dog i have ever had, and they are only for strong willed and experienced owners in my opinion. But germans are noisy, they bark A LOT and are also very vocal, and they can also escape the most secure yards if they want too. Roties are fine just chilling on the couch, as long as they get to play for an hour or two a day, they just lounge around, and are much more calm.

I was raised with German Shepherds, we had them tell I was in my mid 20's. 31 years ago I got my first Rottweiler I can agree with some of these points, but I do believe the Rotti got the short end of the stick on this. I love both breeds, but if I had to choose one over the other, I would take the Rotti. To me there's nothing like the love of a Rottweiler.

I just got a German shepherd mix with Rottweiler puppy. She’s about three months old & she is so wonderful. It’s only been three days & she’s learned so much so quickly.

I HAD A GERMAN SHEPHERD, AND THEY ARE GREAT DOGS!! SMART AND THEY ARE AWARE OF THEIR SURROUNDINGS AT ALL TIME. VERY INTELLIGENT DOGS AND FAMILY ORIENTED. EASY TO TRAIN, CAUSE THEY LISTENS WELL. I WILL CHOOSE SHEPHERD, JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE ADAPTABLE.

I have had both breeds. The GSD was great when I was raising my family and had kids to keep him busy. Now that I'm retired, my Rottie is my constant companion and housemate. It just depends on your lifestyle. I love both breeds, but in my retirement, I couldn't handle the energy of a GSD. Both love their families and can be protective when the need arises. Great dogs!

No contest GSD all the way. I’ve had 4 . 3 girls and a boy. Max was interviewed on Dubai radio. Ha was the only one who could speak on command. He also had a trigger word to bark threatingly if needed. We used to live in some dangerous places

I like GSD's better. They are the most versatile dog. They also look the most like their cousins/ancestors wolves.

I've had both and I'd say it's a tie. They are a little different, but both are excellent. It depends what your looking for. Those two are two of my 3 favorite dogs I've had. Throw in my wolf hybrid and you'll have a house no one will bother. A food bill that will put you in the poor house. And dog hair everywhere. But you'll be safe!!!

No disrespect to German Shepherd intended but I go Rotty 100% after experiencing two generations of these beloved beasts .. Only major downer with them is they do not live long enough for the amount of love they give while living.
