The most intelligent "banana for scale" I've seen, so far.

Instructions unclear, I have eaten the Tritium rods. Now what do I do?

The fears around the word nuclear are crazy to me, just because something is radioactive doesnt always mean its going to shred years off your life like in the Fallout games

BUT WHAT IF I HELD A BANANA FOR AN HOUR?!
WHAT THEN SMART MAN

Not just exit signs, but all sorts of random things: dive watches, instrument dials in aircraft, compasses, weapon sights.... pretty much anywhere you need something to glow in the dark without having to be "charged" by light first

thats how exit signs work for people that can afford tritium signage, most exit signs i've tested during fire inspections have a 12v lead acid battery.

lol only older exit signs have tritium, their very rare to come by, newer ones actually just have leds inside and a rechargeable battery, the battery stays 100% charged as long as theres power, and when the power goes out they can last for hours on the battery

EDIT: upon further research there are some companies that sell and swap Tritium exit signs, however they are VERY expensive and you require a permit to own them, also they will only glow for about 20ish years +/- so I mean you can just buy 20 led ones for the price of one tritium one lmao

I have one of these on my keychain, the tube is surrounded by a thick metal holder. I've gone through radiation detectors and accidentally the TSA 4 times with it and it was never detected. I figure it's safe to be on my keys, and it's really useful if you drop your keys in the dark. Should probably stop bringing it through TSA though...

it's crazy how much "radioactive" things can vary, some of them can be a death sentence in 1 second while others are weaker than a literal banana

Instructions clear but the FBI is at my door asking for Sheldon….

Ah yeah, the legendary measurement, radioactive bananas per hour.

In the mid to late 1970's i recall a digital watch from texas instruments, , it was a tritium digital display with the most soothing awesome, green color, , , and my fathers does not glow anymore.

Tritium exit signs are rare. Most are battery backed up LED. Tritium signs are only used where power is not available.

Oh! These are what are in Tritium gun iron sights as well as some optics like the ACOG!

If you ate 200, 000 bananas, you wouldn't die from radiation poisoning because you're dead from the sheer amount of potassium and banana inside you.

Reminds me of when Chinese were complaining about Japan dumping "radioactive" waste into the ocean. The waste they were talking about was ...tritium. And highly diluted tritium at that.

Nice short! I was not expecting this so it was neat to stumble upon!

Bananas eaten as a radiation scale is probably the best way to use bananas for scale, as it's much easier to understand for humans who needlessly fear any minor radiation.

They also use this in some scopes and red dot sights for firearms to keep the dot lit up without batteries.
