I very much appreciate you trying to speek the Dutch words, you’re not all that far of! “Beeldenstorm” is more bail-den-storm in english.
Thank you for all these lectures, much appreciated!

It's ironic that a revolt that mainly began in the southeren cities eventually ended with the nothern cities getting independence and the southern cities being held by the spanish crown. Also I'm Belgian and it's really sad to have this history thaught to you completely via the protestant lens in school.

Hey man, I have no clue how or why I ended up down this rabbithole but I simply had to learn about this. Thank you for taking the time to write and read this all to us. I'm just a peasant and this was a fun listen.

I appreciate listening to the Catholic side of the religious wars.
I never noticed how all the history I read was slanted towards the protestant side.

After this deadly dull and humorless tirade I feel more for the traditional and much livelier version of the myths. I do not think that by turning the bad guys into good guys and vice versa is a serious contribution to history.
Isn't the fact that Antwerp became depopulated after 1585 and the population fled to the North a clear indication of who the bad guys were?
Doesn't the fact that in the centuries after these events no newborn was called Phlips again in the Northern Netherlands point in the direction of the feeling that the Northern Dutchmen did not see him at all as the saint that you make him out to be.
And that Holland got the hegonomy over the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands was of course not so strange considering the fact that Holland financed 7/8 of all war costs and the other provinces together 1/8. But in the States General the 6 other provinces had just as much say and could block everything that Holland proposed. (Which they also did regularly).
It seems that some people still haven't come to terms with the loss after 376 years. A consolation for them may be the fact that Catholics also feel very much at home in our country.

The Dutch Revolt is such an interesting conflict with indeed many protestants legends and myth although I cannot help myself but think that you overcorrected this a bit. The Inquisition that Phillip II upheld was very brutal and you seem to give much weight to the conspiracy theories of Spanish informers

A bit too much in the catholics favor if u ask me. Intresting video but ive seen a lot of in depth and long form content on the subject and a lot of positives about the dutch and negatives about the spanish are left out. Its actually well known here in the netherlands and people have stories from their own families of people being burned and massacred.

Min 7, 13 in the chart the spanish territories are lacking of Milan Ducate, north Italy...conquered after the italian wars between France and the spanish empire...Min 19, 21 are sacred and beautiful expensive and sophisticated objects that avert money from the solidarity towards the poors? So these kind of christians do prefer spend a lot of money to buy luxury ornaments intead of using for the poors?...and this question is valid for many protestant churches in our times
