I love that we're seeing Oswald's mother at least a little.
In many incarnations of the Penguin, we see that when Oswald was a kid, his mother was the only person in his life who showed any mercy or compassion towards him (His own father and brothers hated him, and the other kids in school and whatnot were completely heartless towards him), and so as an adult he cares for her as best he can.
How the Penguin treats others depends a LOT on how they treat him; He is brutally vindictive towards people who he believes have wronged him, but is also loyal, generous, and even downright kind towards people who do right by him.
In case you can't tell, he's my favorite Batman villain and I'm eagerly awaiting this show.
