Who is your favourite Zelda companion?

(Shoutout to Zeldom and The Bread Pirate for introducing me to this trend!)

For me: always a tie between Fi and Midna.
Both for the same reason, but different steps, oddly enough. Growth and attachment.

Midna starts as an almost antagonistic force, using Link for her own ends and utterly uncaring about anyone but herself. She’s berating, annoying, dismissive, and unhelpful to the nth degree.
And by the time we get to Midna’s lament: you are racing to Zelda with all possible speed, praying you make it in time and don’t lose your best friend. Weighing the choice of using the sprint, because you know it bounces her around, and you don’t want to hurt her, but also trying to get her there fast, and every so often doing it just to make sure she’s still breathing.

Or Fi. Who begins as a robot, but over time starts to develop a personality. From her cold shoulder to Scrapper, to her teasing way of dancing during the Isle of Songs, and the final step where she says goodbye, and realizes she was more than simply programmed to help, but happy to be our companion. And so much is done through her body language, with dialogue being a very distant second priority to her. Which makes it all the stronger when at the end: she bares her soul to Link and admits she wishes they could keep having adventures forever. Even appearing physically for one last goodbye, in a very human way, even after she’s put to sleep in the plinth.
Just hearing her little whistle after beating the Master Trials (master mode sucks, but it’s so much more satisfying) literally brings me to tears each time, knowing she’s finally reunited.

Midna is and always will be my absolute favorite companion. She has the sass, character development, and just overall is the best.

I'll preface this by saying Tatl is not my favorite companion, but you're gonna tell me that Tatl is more boring than Navi? Tatl has a backstory with a family and friends and goes through significant personal growth, while Navi is basically just "hi, I'm Navi, look out for that Deku Baba is for the fifteenth time!" and then peaces out on you at the end of the game without another word.

The kind of person that says the Sheikah Slate is their favorite companion is a software engineer that keeps getting rejected because they don't know how to interact with other humans, so they decide to give up on dating because "2D people are so much nicer than 3D people."

The kind of person that says they prefer no companions (a la Zelda 1 & 2) lives in a cabin in the woods with no electricity or running water, chops their own firewood, grows and hunts their own food, and the only pieces of technology they have are a radio and a pickup truck from the '80s.

I can't choose between Midna or Fi because both their endings had me crying on the floor for hours.

Weird to hear someone call Tatl boring when I always felt she had way more personality than Navi did.

Man said “If you’re a Fi fan, this is your room” then put up a picture of what my room looked like when Skyward Sword came out and I fell in love with Fi

Tatl was snarky, had an actual reason to be with Link other than "well the tree said so", had a change of character over time, and exhibited friendship and loyalty. Tatl is best and you cannot convince me otherwise.

Midna is best because she isn’t only a companion but she is a critical part of the story.

Navi is my favorite because of this: "There's no way he's going to hold me back again! This time, we fight together!"

As a emotionally intelligence adult: this line(s) gets me everytime now. She just a little while earlier says she sorry she couldn't help in the fight before and with the excellent score in the background while losing the Master Sword makes this the perfect line reading with some extreme emotional depth.

"Now hit that subscribe button, you big simp." I wasn't expecting to called out like that so bluntly. Not to say I'm a "simp" for Midna, but she is my favourite companion. 😂

The Linebeck fan description is so accurate for me

Fi an Midna are both the best for the very same reason. They are fleshed out in terms of personality and story, and you emotionally connect with them in a deep way. Midna was more well done, but Fi also deserves to be up there among the best, imo.

Deeply tempted to say Sidon should count as a companion, what with all the times we go back to him just to be told we're doing a good job and he's proud of us fjfjdndk

I think you can probably guess my personal favorite, but not for the reasons really listed here.
She just resonated with me in a way I'm not sure how to describe but maybe a decent explanation is her infallible logical and statistical nature throughout the game clicking with my desire to fundamentally know all I'm capable of.
Maybe it was the fact that she was so keen to hold the player's hand, despite lacking arms, helping a my childish self get through challenges I'd become so used to watching someone else complete with ease.
Perhaps it was the comfort in knowing that, unlike every other companion, she never truly leaves. She may not remain consciously with us, but she's there every time we pick up that sacred blade across any of the games.
I'm not sure. I just know I love her dearly and miss her greatly.

Even though they're not really companions as you aren't exploring with them a bunch, I want to give a special shoutout to both Medli and Makar. I love both of them and their respective roles in the Wind Waker as the Earth and Wind Sages. Plus, Medli is an awesome character in Hyrule Warriors, but that's a different topic.

Back on track, my favorite companion from this list has to be Midna. She's plain awesome, enough said. From her character design and backstory to her amazing character development through the story of Twilight Princess, there is nothing to dislike about her as a companion.

Midna is by far my favorite companion. Her development as a character, recognizing Link's responsibilities and the lengths he goes to protect those close to him drives her to do the same. Her sacrifice in the endgame still gets me teary eyed although I know she survives.

Zelda is the companion from Breath. She doesn't speak up much, but she can obviously talk to you no matter where you are or what you're doing, though it's usually just to warn you about the blood moon. I guess you could even say there are five companions - Zelda and the four champion's ghosts, who also tell you helpful things at any time, like "Daruk's Protection is ready to roll!", and actively assist you with things like healing and electro-frying enemies.

Yes, Midna is my favorite companion. I like her backstory.

Midna is also my favorite. I would also argue that Midna is the true protagonist in the game even more than Link. Love her story and how she switches sides
