It's hard to be without your floor jack. We show you how to fix and rebuild your floor jack, or just about any other type of jack. Most floor jacks have a simple bottle jack that does all the heavy lifting. After pulling this out, the teardown and rebuild process is pretty similar across many brands.

Great video. Bonus points for correctly pronouncing asterisk.

I just want to say THANK YOU so much for this video. My 15+ year old Craftsman 3-1/2 ton floor jack would no longer hold any weight and if it weren't for this video, I would have never had the confidence to tackle the repair. Turns out, the ram seal on mine cracked which is why it would pump up but not hold (no leaks). I simply replaced that seal even though the rebuild kit came with all the O-rings and even the valve bearings. Now works great again! But if it ever develops a leak down the road, I know what to do. So thank you for the great video!

I've ordered myself a kit with bearing balls and seals so I'm watching YouTube vids to better understand everything a little better and I've learned a lot about what to do and what to watch out for from your video. Thank you

What I've found is that I like to replace ALL of the seals and O-rings when I go through a floor jack.
Sadly, manufacturers are more concerned with the bottom line (cost/profit) than they are with quality and almost ALWAYS use inferior parts.
My local hydraulic repair shop has proven to me that even a brand new (unused) jack can be improved with a simple rebuild with better parts and some attention to detail.
My guy says he has yet to have one of his floor jack rebuilds come back.
Ever since he showed me that, any time I have to open up a floor jack (for whatever reason) or even my engine hoist, I go completely through it, deburring anything that needs it, and replacing everything with quality parts. I've yet to be disappointed with this method.
I LOVE how you went through this process in such detail! Best hyd jack rebuild video I've ever seen on the web!
You have a natural teaching talent. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Found a 2 Ton Napa floor Jack at the house we moved into and it had a leak when I used it so now I know how to repair it. Thanks for the great video my friend 👍

Excellent teardown and rebuild video. These floor jacks are more complex than one might think, good techniques demonstrated here.

This is perhaps the best overall video on disassembling and reassembling a floor jack that I've seen on YouTube, and I've watched many in preparation to repair my own jack. I have found no other video that addresses the channels and check valves inside the distribution block. Really well done! If you ever decide to edit, or add to this video, please consider including further detail on disassembling and reassembling the o-rings and seals around the ram inside the pressure cylinder. That could be very helpful! Thanks very much for your efforts on this video!

Very good practicality! The cardboard idea of setting the diagram and parts was really helpful. I'm going to do it like that.⚠️

Great video. It is a gift when an expert can explain things in a way that a non expert can understand. You have that gift. By the way, it is bearing ball, not ball bearing. Everyone makes the same mistake. I was in the bearing business for 22 years. A ball bearing has in inner and outer race with bearing balls inside of it. Sorry. Can't help myself : )

OUTSTANDING VIDEO! Very well explained, I have a 3.5 Ton NAPA Jack very similar, this video makes it much easier for myself and others I'm sure. I have my NAPA jack18 years, just last week it started to creep down. That tells me that oil is bypassing a seal or ball bearing somewhere inside, no visible external leaks ever. The jack has served me well, now it's time to replace the seals, O Rings and bushings if necessary. THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your time and effort, I did subscribe

Thanks! I have had a difficult time trying to get two of my floor Jack's to operate correctly. So now that you showed me how, I will have no problems at all with the rebuilding. Thanks Charles

Most people can skip the first 8 or 9 minutes. The best part was at 15:42!
And there are a lot of good tips throughout the vid.

Not supposed to over fill to the top of the fill hole, this will cause a jack to lock up and not go back down. Also, when bleeding air by pumping the handle (loosened off like you're lowering the jack down) you need to leave the fill screw/plug out of the hole. Everything else was good to go.

yep, that old craftsman on one right now. This was a GREAT help. I missed with the "do not adjust" valves and now I have a baseline since I'm assuming these are most likely baseline settings. I had the u joint break and I was able to replace just the joint with a bit of work instead of having to order the entire assembly. I also learned that one of the large allen bolts securing the handle housing is LH....
