The cmos battery will last longer than the game servers all the games are requiring now.

For 700$ you can get a feature that the wii and wii u had by default. Amazing

The CMOS battery doesn't outlive old devices.. but it does now outlive newer devices

I'm pretty sure that because of EU laws, Sony is forced to make the PS5 repairable. Easy access for such things seems logical for Right to Repair.

Congratulations for being the short that loudly played on loop for 5 minutes because my phone fell behind my bed

"hey let's make this easily accessible in case it breaks"
"will it break?"
"yeah"

I cracked open my old PS2 Fat (300001) and the original Sony CMOS battery was still in place and working. It has the freakin PlayStation logo on it and I couldn’t get over that 😂

I think I've been living under a rock my whole life, I don't know what a PS5 pro is

If people want to keep retro video games around, they should applaud this.

The older generations of consoles are failing, and this tiny upgrade can help future historians/retro video game enthusiasts keep their consoles alive. This isn’t an upgrade for today, it’s an upgrade for the future.

Absolutely great to have, considering how a dead cmos can be bad for ps3 and ps4 as they need to verify time with sony to let you play if it lost power

I snorted the dust and it brought me here…

Giving people easy access to the cmos battery feels like the irl equivalent of a game telling us we can hide in the lockers 💀

The Wii U has an incredibly accessible CMOS battery, though never heard of anyone ever needing to change it.

The last bit about the battery dust was amazing😂

You know what, I believe this is a small step in the right direction! I think that shifts to making tech easier (and more affordable/accessible) to repair/upgrade could lead to longer life spans for computers and consoles and stuff and could also lead to less e-waste, which would be great! I really hope we see more of this down the line.
(Disclaimer! All this being said, I will say that my knowledge of this kind of stuff is very beginner-level, so feel free to correct me if I’m wrong or if I’m missing something! I would greatly appreciate it!)

The next ones they drop will support PS3 emulation via over locking and clock modulation, they’re gonna use the same motherboard design so they’ll need easy access to the clock battery to upgrade the unsold PS5 Pro boards with this feature.

It’s definitely a step up from the PlayStation 2, where you have to disassemble the entire console down to the circuitboard to change it

Even if you won't need it... a new feature is a new feature. How can people be mad about this?

That JonTron edit had me geeked for a moment. Lol

Sony did have a problem with Cmos batteries in PS4, so it's cool, that they're doing this. You probably won't ever use it, but it's nice to have.
