The PS4 CMOS battery looks like it affects much more than just the PS4. After some digging, it looks like the team at Does it Play has uncovered a PS3 CMOS Battery issue, a PS4 battery issue, and all of these affect your digital games and access to your saves. In addition, they've also found that the DRM on Xbox would prevent you from accessing certain games should the new consoles ever stop having server support. This has left many surprised by PlayStation and Xbox and hoping that they come up with a solution. Read more at

There are people that love keeping their consoles either to play or to collect. The amount that is affected isn’t the issue. The issue is for anyone that wants to continue to play or preserve these consoles. I still pop out my Xbox 360 to play Dance Central 3 with my wife. That’s special to us both. The same goes for these consoles wether it’s PlayStation or Xbox. Both need to be addressed.

If my game, especially a single player game, is stored on my hard drive and I am signed in, I don't care whether or not there is internet. I want access to my games. This has bothered me for a long time. This is a huge consumer issue and we really need to put it in the forefront and not stop until they make it right.

Thanks Destin. I was beginning to think I was crazy. Every time I bring up the fear of losing my Ps3 games, everyone keeps telling me to get over it and play new games. I do play new games, but I still enjoy older games. Gamers like us should matter to Sony

One of the few times where Nintendo being stuck in the past in terms of online is a blessing.

What’s most disappointing to me is that I only discovered your channel like 2 weeks ago. I love your casual yet knowledgeable presentations and discussions.

A nice eloquence with higher than average production value, nice short intro sequence, professional manner of dress, and most importantly, solid content.

You earned a new YouTube Premium Subscriber with Bell turned on! Thanks Destin!

If Microsoft keeps their word on gaming preservation, it really won't matter in which system you play your games. The console is but a husk. It has value for collectors but if you want to play an old game, you can simply get the current gen Xbox and play that game.

On Sony side though, they have only shown that you can't trust them to do the same. Your games will work as long as Sony thinks it is financially viable for them. This worries me a lot, and I'm really not willing to buy games for my PS5 anymore.

the problem is your PlayStation clowns spent years saying you don't care about backwards compatibility

this is your own fault... Sony doesn't care because you said and typed over and over that you don't either... give me that same nobody plays old games energy

why are you clowns switching it up now

The CMOS battery flaw is exposed and Sony is silent very interesting. Sony needs to be sued.

I’m with you man, I have a ton of physical games. I bought them physically for that reason, game preservation. Sony needs to fix this. Great video man 👍.

People had better be pissed off about this & voice up. I don't care if you're an Xbox fan or a Playstation fan. It is absolutely inexcusable that any company, let alone a multibillion & even a trillion dollar company are pulling this 💩. I have a massive library of digital games & have thought of this & the potential of not being able to play them on several occasions. Particularly due to the few times my games wouldn't launch when something was wrong with the service. Both Playstation & Xbox fans need to voice up & demand a solution to this. We shouldn't have to be connected to their network to play a game we've paid $60 to $100+ for. Period. I've often thought of returning to buying physical copies, but that doesn't matter when all that's on them is a Key to download the game & a Digital License to be able to launch it. In fact, there should be a way of getting a physical copy of every digital game we've purchased. If they need to make it so that it will only launch with our Gamertag, so be it. But I would happily pay a small fee & shipping to have physical copies of all of the games I've purchased digitally.

The ps3/ps4/ps5 cbomb issue can be patched by sony, it's just a matter if they will. The issue has to do with the kernel clock resetting to 0 when your cmos dies, so it has to reach out to the PSN servers to sync time for trophies to work. The patch would need to simply allow games to launch even if trophies won't work.

Having both systems, I'm telling you, the X-Box Series X DRM is significantly WORSE.

I have less concerned with Xbox DRM worries but more concerned with the cbomb issue on PlayStation even if Xbox was out the console market and Xbox live went I sure you would be able to download your profile because it's a Hotmail, live or outlook and wouldn't really make much difference to Microsoft server costs but again still a problem and both Microsoft and Sony should fix this it's not right and effects us all with game preservation and right to repair and use are hardware in many years to come if ether company are not around.

Maybe these manufacturers should say to there fanbase if and when we stop supporting said hardware we will give out an end of life update which removes these restrictions but they should do it now

Xbox don't have CMOS
As long as you had the initial online setup of your games they'll work offline for as long as your console lasts

I actually modded my Wii a few years after Nintendo took down its servers. Not to emulate games or to customize it, but to install some of the Wii’s original channels that are no longer downloadable and to bring back online support. I might have to mod my PS3 too, because if Sony doesn’t care, then it’s up to the gaming community to keep these consoles alive.
