Buy the M3 or Wait for M4 MacBook?

The M3 Max Macbook Pro has been nothing but amazing for me! The only question that remains is, how much better will the M4 Max be at the Apple Event in October?

You can’t chase tech. It will make you go crazy. As soon as the m4’s come out, there will be videos that say to buy the m3 or wait till the m5’s come out. There will always be something lighter, faster, etc coming in the future. It’s all Apples’ plan. Just look at the recent iPhones. There really hasn’t been a huge update lately unless you are upgrading from several models back.

First of all I like to see someone giving so much effort of making in videos and they have just started.
For the first time in my life I have bought Apple Mac product, I went for M3 Pro Macbook Pro base model for the same price that I would get base model M3. ( Amazon(16% discount) & Apple prices )
Machine is top notch, I decided not to wait October because it will not be such a difference, but the price would.
I now have a very powerful machine for 5+ years and then maybe I will upgrade.

a fully maxed out 14 inch MBP is literally a dream laptop. it has the best size-to-horsepower ratio of any laptops in the market. the ultimate portable workstation.

I'm considering getting an M3 Max MB Pro soon, to replace my Dell XPS 17 9710. The dell is still doing well, it's got a 11th or 12th gen intel i7 8 core with 64Gb Ram and 4TB of storage I upgraded myself. But Apple has a lot more pros for Music Production which is my passion/career path. I think I'm gonna get an M3 Max MBP and get the M4 Max Mac Studio next year.

the 14 inch MBP is literally the most perfect laptop size and nobody can change my mind. loving mine. i wish they can make it thinner and in titanium in the future without any compromise, a 1 kilogram machine is a dream.

I’m indecisive if I should wait for the New M4 or get the M3 Pro. So, I currently don’t have a Laptop, and I am starting University this September. The Course I would be doing is Games Development. Should I wait or get the M3 Pro?

am on intel 2017 mac, which is starting to have problems when it comes to proccesing and stuff. so i am planning to get a new laptop

Apple released 3 chips in matter of 2 years just to catch up with snapdragon to win the race of benchmarks with minor upgrades shows there's no point in either rushing to buy or waiting too long for buying any MacBooks, if your current mac that has m series chip fulfils your needed then its no point to buy a new one whatsoever . Apple laptops reached its peak when m1 released as it a new arm based chip which gave it a massive advantage over its competition over battery life and single core performance and cant expect such kind of a jump in near future so avoid any new rumors or leaks that suggests huge improvements over the previous generation.

My next Mac will be the one that fully supports all key technologies of Unreal Engine 5 like Nanite. Until then I am totally fine with my M1 Max. Still two to three generations later it is an awesome machine.

Anyway, heard the M3 Max runs hot and the fans are loud. However, low power mode solves the issue.
Despite being in low power mode, it still smokes the m2 max (even if M2 is not in low power mode).

I generally agree that you can't chase tech and I generally also agree with your review, with one exception. The M4's are going to boost the neural engine of the chip to outperform the M3, core counts will stay the same but M4 will be able to handle 38 TOPS (trillions of operations per second) vs 18 TOPS of the M3. This is where the real decision needs to be centered on, imo. Overall performance of an M3 vs M4 will likely be negligible but in the age of ML/AI we are in we need to pay attention as ML/AI is going to move very fast, and hardware will need to move fast with it.

I am currently looking at upgrading my 2019 Intel Macbook Pro with either the M3 or waiting for the M4 and I personally may just wait for the M4 to ensure I get the best AI hardware available to "future proof" myself as much as possible. Every major piece of software will start to embed some of ML / AI into their applications. Apple Intelligence will also leverage this specific hardware.

The 16inch does perform better on more demanding task. It wouldn't thermal throttle as fast as the 14inch.

I’ll buy a new MacBook once Apple finally notices what decade we are in and ups the base model to 16GB and 1TB without bumping the price. 16GB/1TB is $1000 notebook territory in 2024.
