Controversial? Or overpriced? Like WAY OVERPRICED BUT! It is also pretty cool they got a 2tb storage that small. Which could also be another reason why it’s so expensive

What you forgot to mention is that the external Samsung SSD does not work at NVME speeds. While the official one from Seagate does.

Probably the best thing to do if you don't want to overpay for the Seagate drives, put older games on the the USB-C external hard drive and put the current gen games on the system hard drive. Those games are the ones you'll get the most benefit from having on the console instead of the slower speed external hard drive.
I'd keep an eye out on different sites because I've seen a knock off drive case, you have to get the firmware for the Seagate drives and add it to whatever m.2 (short style), then you would put it in the knockoff drive case and put it in like an official drive. The one I seen wasn't fully functional but it's a great proof of concept. If you were to get one now, some people who are a little bit more handy with tech might be able to make it work properly. But that's a totally viable option in a few more generations of the product, once the kinks are ironed out.

Just a warning to anyone thinking of getting an external storage system: while I definitely agree the internal Seagate expansion is not always necessary and is wayyy over priced, more and more games are becoming Series Optimized. When I first got an external storage drive, I found most of the games I played I couldn’t install onto it. Most if not all games that are currently being updated are XS Optimized which means it can’t be installed externally. And if your like me who has an Xbox Series S and REALLY struggles with the 350GB storage, but plays a lot of modern titles, the internal expansion is almost needed. I got a 4TB external hard drive, intending to fill it up pretty quick, but only found less than a fourth of it used after 6 months. Not many popular titles are available to be externally installed unless they are old in a series or just outdated. I also found where he used Forza Horizon 5 as an example on screen misleading, to be clear you CANNOT install Forza Horizon 5 on external storage. And if you have an Xbox Series S be prepared for it to take up half of your XS Storage.

There are actually a handful of X|S optimized titles that can be used on External Storage, most of them were previously Xbox One games with next gen updates. Like Skyrim Special Edition, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, The Division 2, and others. But any games that have come out during the Series X|S or PS5 lifespan, are internal storage only.

And let's not forget near instant load times, your not buying it for the storage, your buying it for the tech, NVME will always load faster then a normal SSD.

I bought a 14TB external drive a couple years ago on sale at Black Friday for my series X. Use it as a storage solution. Then I use a 500GB external sata SD for games that are enhanced but that can also run on externals, and I don’t require extreme load times but rather just fast load times lol

I have a 4tb external storage, but it really is a pain in the ass transferring games just bcs I can't play it off of the external storage

Remember, you can NOT play Xbox Series X/S “enhanced” games off of an external hard drive or even an external solid state drive. You need the Storage Expansion Card for any next-gen exclusive games.

I already have an Xbox One X for older games. So, when my Xbox Series S ran out of storage place, I *had to* buy the 1TB Storage Expansion Card.

They offer a 512 GB for $ 109 and the 1TB for $ 199. If you go with the 512 its worth it as you'll have around the same space as an X for $349. As you can grab an S series for $240 atm.

This bro. I bought a 2TB Toshiba hard drive for like $70 and i have over 60 games downloaded and i still have around 50% storage left (on console and on HDD together)

The loading times are very miniscule for games like fallout. But bigger games take longer. I just move the games I want faster load speeds on to my internal SSD.

When I bought a normal SSD I thought it would play series s/x games and I download one of these games and it wouldn't launch... Then I bought the 1tb Seagate expansion card. The first time I paid full price the second time I had a 149 dollar best buy gift card and the expansion card was on sale.

It's funny how he gives tech advice without knowing anything about tech,

"Even in 4k" it doesn't matter if it is in 4k or 8k or 360p, the storage is purely for loading the game or the different stages, ofc textures need to be loaded too but trust me, that's your last concern, something that you have to worry about more with external storage is loading time but if you are using an SSD you shouldn't have any problems with that

There’s also some games with the X|S symbol that will run from an external drive. Go to manage game, file info and if it says „Gen9Aware“ it will work. Rocket League, Overwatch and PSO2 are such games for example.
Only native „Gen9“ games need the internal storage or storage expansion.

The official Xbox expansion card is designed for series X/S with the same architecture used in the console allowing the games to run as intended. This can not be guaranteed by any other SSD.

I would say it’s no more controversial than the £30 dvd remote that was needed to play DVD’s on the OG Xbox. Not really sure an optional accessory to expand storage can be that divisive. Very expensive though none the less. That being said, a 20GB hard drive for an Xbox 360 was £80 at launch.

THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED TO KNOW!!! THANK YOU :) i am doing exactly this with my ps5

Ya your alternative doesn't let you play the series x/s games as they require the internal OR the weird new ones. I spoke to Microsoft about it after getting my series x about it and they told me that.
