Apply a smooth stucco finish with the base coat.

Tip folks, one can only trowel down stucco, which has sand in it so smooth. Likewise, it does not matter how strong a person’s arm is. Similarly, a two-coat system can only be so smooth.
Now take interior plaster, which anyone can trowel down smoothly like a baby's butt or glass.
As most interior plaster has little to no sand.
A man’s got to know his limitations and his materials.
Hairline cracking. This usually occurs because the plywood and the studs below the stucco expand when the sun beats down on it for several hot days, which can cause the stucco to hairline a bit, especially on (green) plywood wood-frame walls.
This does not apply to concrete walls, cinder blocks, or brick walls, as they don’t usually expand or shrink with the hot sun bearing down on them.
This video explains applying a hard steel trowel finish with a two-coat system.
Remember, folks, when you steel trowel a two-coat finish, you seal the two coats as they are porous.
This can cause excessive hairline cracking (technical stuff)
Usually, good-quality paints can flood almost all cracks
