I really enjoy this. However, one thing that I feel deserves mentioning is in the documentary's failure to discuss Anaximander it fails to point out that it was he who FIRST began to grasp the idea of evolution, not Empedocles (who trailed Anaximander by more than half a century). Anaximander claimed that man must have been generated by other species due to the extreme vulnerability of humans during infancy, which would make their survival impossible. Early man, he claimed, was fish-like.

@Augustinephillips Upon looking back into my readings I have in fact made a misinterpretation. The 'fish-like' label was given to the parents of the first generation of humans whom retained their human offspring inside them until they were mature enough to fend for themselves, according to some sources. No gradual evolution took place. But still, to grasp the idea that life started in a watery environment and ultimately made its way onto dry land, I think, is a huge accomplishment.

Why do all these vids start with what sounds like the load up music to Double Dragon 2?

...He does not postulate a claim to some superatural knowledge but uses reason with the confidence that one's mind is efficacious and competent to deal with all the problems of existence. Attempts like these mark the birth of philosophy and of men assuming their full stature as rational beings.

@xRTPx @xRTPx I by no means meant to belittle that achievement, I in fact think it is even an understatement for Anaximander's idea does not so much reflect the essentials of the theory of evolution but rather an attempt to formulate an integrated view of man, of existence, of the universe and not resort to mysticism like the contention that man was created on a drizzly afternoon.

@Creamefreche why are facts like "love, harmony and peace progressive? and if so, are they always progressive to society? and are facts like hate, fear, (ignorance is a no contest) pride and greed causes regression to society? just wanna ask? =)

fear is the oposite of love, not hate

@xRTPx Anaximander did not believe that man were fish like or that there was something like a gradual evolution from fish to men but that at some point men literally burst out of their fish begeters and were proper full-blown human specimen.
