Reminds me of something I heard a long time ago... "If you shoot for the eagle, you'll bag the pheasant and you won't eat crow."
Love your videos! :)

Hello Alec. I am a carpenter from rhe steele city oops I mean steel city. Pittsburgh Pa. I have been watching your videos for a few days and they are awesome. You have such a great energy and the video quality is superb. I own a small construction company and i can say that putting in that extra time on top of your regular 8 hour day pays off tenfold. Thank you for taking the time to share all of your knowledge in this craft. It is very much appreciated. Best of luck to you my friend.

Alex, my name is John I am 60 years old, I have a coal forage that is an antique I have wanted to do Blacksmithing for a long gone time. I have been watching your shows for awhile now, and have learned a lot from you. Soon I hope to get one of your hammers and start making some of my own. Thanks for what you do.

Alec, how old did you say you are? Very well said. I can see that you have put your theories into operations. Your niche in the Blacksmith market is, well, inspirational. Back in the 1800's here in America we had this phenomenon called the "Gold Rush" that is still going today. For most of the people who attempted to get rich, they lost everything and some even lost thier lives. But do you know who made money hand over fist? It was the companies that provided support to the gold mining operations, not necessarily the miners. One of my Great Grandfathers a couple of generations ago work the Gold Rush. He was a poor Blacksmith that went to Alaska to find his fortune, and he did, by making shovels, and picks, and drills and HAMMERS. You make tools for Blacksmiths. Your hammers design is magnificent, they make the work much easier, simpler, they are multiple tools all combined in one "Multi-Tool". The fact that my daughters and my wife all think your just the cutest wild hair guy they have seen is a bonus. Infectious smile, product credibility, and an English accent, what else do you need? Lets not forget Sam, Sam, the Hammer man.

Thank you, keep these thing are so helpful to people no matter their age or passion. Your passion and wisdom is far more focused than people that have been trying to start or grow their own business for many decades.

This is very good talk. I am a serious leathercraft hobbyist, very good advice for me. Thanks Alec for this kind of video. I can feel your energy.

Alec, I have to say I'm impressed. I started watching your videos because I've always loved blacksmitthing since I very young in my grandfather's shop. That was like 50 years ago. I love your energy and work ethic. I see you're focused on what you love and your goals. That is a rare quality these days in younger people. Even though Blacksmitthing is almost a forgotten art and skill, I see you're growing your business quickly. You're doing a lot right. I'm even looking at buying your hammers and maybe taking a trip to the UK for a class. Keep it up. You're doing great!

Alec, you make some great points. As you said about running a business, goal setting is different for everyone. Another way of goal setting is setting small very attainable goals at first. Get the taste of success and grow your goal setting keeping them attainable. Doing things like reading "think and grow rich" "inc yourself" and other self help and business oriented books will help. You are a whirl wind Alec. Wish I had half your energy. Best of luck in everything. Cheers.

Love the new lighting. I have no desire to open my own business, but I treat the work I do as if it were my own business. I don't have to market it and sell it the same way, but I think the same principles apply to people working for another. You da man!

This really resonates with me, I'm a furniture maker and when I was sick of having poor access at my workshop, I took the leap and signed a 3 year lease on an industrial unit. Very scary, cost alot more than my previous shop. That was a year ago, never looked back - busiest year of my self employed career (it's been 6 years!).

First I will say that I have a really good day job that not everybody can do.  That being said, it's not my dream job.  Now you've got me thinking of ways to spend more time in the forge.  It's not so easy when the shop isn't lighted or heated and it's dark when I get home after work (during fall and winter months).  So I guess that's where I need to start.  Lighting and heating.

I don't have any delusions of grander, especially after only forging 3 pieces. I would love to develop my skill to be good enough to do a trade show or two. Maybe even Etsy. Man Alec! Now you got me all riled up! In a good way of course!

Thanks for the video Alec! I’m a big fan of your work and I’m trying to get into blacksmithing myself. I was always skeptical about going into the trade as it doesn’t seem like a secure salary. But this video inspired me to give it my all because over the past year I realized I truly have a passion for metal work. After watching this video I was inspired to reach out as many places I could. I found numerous classes actually near me (didn’t think I would here in New Jersey) and I’m excited to learn the skill more effectively. I’m only 20 right now and I’m currently going to school for my associates and working, while my schedule is packed I still find time to forge. Thank you for inspiring me and realizing that it’s attainable if I try hard enough, keep making videos and keep inspiring!
