I also have a bladesmithing hammer by Ilya Aleksayev. I got it a few years ago when he was still on That Works YouTube channel. Great hammer

As an alternative charcoal is readily available pretty much anywhere and will get plenty hot for forging. You'll go through it a lot faster than coal, but hey you can get a bag down the street. Just be sure to only use lump charcoal, not brickettes because they make more ash

Excellent info
For when my DIY juices start to simmer.
I’m a fan of the “forged in fire “ TV show

One thing that’s good to use for an anvil is a sledgehammer head and when you’re using green cold, do not breathe in the yellow smoke no matter what you do do not do it. I actually volunteer at the museum, which got me in the blacksmith thing and I have a fort at home and an anvil. It’s a Ferrier anvil and if you got a harbor freight, that’s the best place to get hammers unless you go on eBay I got a rounding hammer off eBay and antique one

Can you make a homemade forge craftshop with only pieces found in abbandoned railroad stations?

I feel like a piece of railroad track might be harder to find and more expensive than most anvil, harbor freight has one for 60 bucks

Word of advice: Don't listen to anyone who says you can pick that stuff up walking along the railroad track. It's very, very very illegal. This is from experience

Could just use a campfire vacuum combo cleaner, the back of a hatchet, and a stump

And maybe some safety equipment? Something to protect the eyes and hands and skin from hot metal contact? Or is safety optional?

Harbor Freight sells cheap anvils. They're probably crap, but it's not like improvising with railroad track is perfect either.

A perfect first project is making your own first set of tongs

Also what’s weird is you can get almost all of that for near free since I grantee you at least 1 member of your family has an old storage unit that they put grandpas old tools in.

Instructions unclear. I have now caused a train wreck due to cutting off parts of the track.

I just use long pliers or work with long metal so U don't need tongs and have more control. Almost unnecessary in my opinion
