wage gap isn’t made up, just misunderstood. depending on the organization you take either the mean salaries of all men/women or median. there is a discrepancy but is largely accounted for by choices within work. There was a joint study done by Harvard professors evaluating the MBTA. Women were found to make less but on account that men were more likely to work overtime, take up shifts on short notice, and take less time off. Other factors such as women largely being the primary caretakers of kids play into effect on their work life. Taking out all of these factors, you would be left with, maybe, a negligible difference.

Men on average make more than women. Many
factors contribute to this fact such as, men are
more likely to work overtime, men go into higher
paying jobs in stem, men are more likely to ask
for a raise, men take less time off for
parenthood. In this mixture there may be some
sexism at play in certain jobs, but you can't just
look at that, you have to look at the big picture.
You can't oversimplify it to this extreme margine.
Also unequal pay based on gender is highly
illegal, and could easily land your company in
very very hot water. It's simply not worth it to
intentionally pay men more.
