I have been to New York City one time in my life traveling from Canada. I arrived at 2:00 a.m. at a bus terminal. I asked for directions at a kiosk and the guy told me to get the hell away from him if I wasn't buying something. I went upstairs and there was this 5-ft cop trying to tell a 7 ft black guy to put his clothes back on. Then I walked outside and there was a guy laying dead on the ground and everybody was just walking past him. I got to my friend's apartment building and there were bullet holes all over the elevator. Inside the apartment there was a steel door with locks on both sides and that was just my first 2 hours.

The idea of being a tourist in NYC does not seem attractive to me anymore. The feel of a knife going into my body and the subsequent pain and bleeding and possible death makes it not worth seeing a bunch of buildings that are too tall.

That happened to me too, in the Village, years ago. Out of nowhere a man jumped on me and knocked me in the face with brass knuckles. With blood dripping in my face and hardly able to see, I walked into a drugstore for help and was told: " Get out of here, you're gone scare my customers!" I finally walked alone to St Vincent Hospital where, after waiting a long time in the emergency room, I got stitches.

The reporter says, the last place you expect to hear of a random slashing. NYC has random slashing`s almost every day. Why do reporters always act like this is unusual for NYC?
