Should you major in computer science for 2020, 2021, 2022? What you study in college can drastically change your career opportunities after you graduate and what fields you will be more likely to pursue. Throughout this video I try to give you an idea of what sort of classes you'll be taking as a computer science major (or programming related major). I also try to cover what the average new grad salary for a computer science major roughly looks like.

If you've recently taken AP computer science (or ap computer science principles), and you are wondering whether or not you should major in computer science, I give my experience with studying mathematics and computer science at UCSD for the past 3.5 years.

Whether you're interested in python and data science, artificial intelligence, pure software engineering, mathematical analysis, deep/machine learning or many others; majoring in computer science can teach you the principles and fundamentals to pursue any number of careers to make an impact on the tech world. So is it time to learn coding and major in cs?

I am about to graduate CS from a University out here in Silicon Valley. I am no genius, did not do well in high-school, and went to community college and transferred without even being in CS or wanting to do it. I decided about a year into transferring at my university to do CS, and take the risk with the math and hard science and it was the best decision i have ever made. I have aced all my coding classes, averaged B's in the more science-classes and C's and B's in math (math is just not my thing, lol). If i can do it, LITERALLY, anyone can do it. I suggest anyone considering it but is on the rails to do it! I put school first and worked very, very hard and focused during school and it all worked out. You must be prepared to work hard, study a lot and master your craft. If you have the work ethic for that, you will be fine. Any of you will be! If anyone else is in the bay area on here and looking into CSU East Bay, reply here and I can give specific advice for that school!

Good luck!

I'm a software engineer/partner for a defense contractor...here's the best piece of advice I can give when going through your cs program, work on projects! You need to show employers what you've done or built either on your own or through other work experience/projects. The degree is great security, but what will separate you from the group is having a nice Github and projects to talk about during your interview. Talent in this field, is the ability to be productive.

When you start talking about salaries of CS grads right out of college the average starting pay of 60-70k is amazing ... think about any other major in college most can barely reach 40k after they’ve been in their field after a few years . Most can’t even find jobs in their field and resort to just dumping their degree or going to grad school to waste more time and Money

I was recently born a few weeks ago. Is it too late to start learning how to code?

Great video! Currently a Junior in HS learning Python. I’ve really gotten to enjoy coding, but when I think of taking CS in the future I get super overwhelmed. I know it will be worth it though!

The British accent all of a sudden at 6:19😂 I replayed it 5 times haha thanks for the video btw.
I took a programming course in high school and I loved it. Now I’m in college with absolutely no idea what to major in, so I’m thinking of taking a basic CS class to see if it’s for me!

I really enjoy programming and have learned python but it is really hard to get in and a lot of people are majoring in it so I believe that there will be a lot of people flooding into that job section and I might major in physics or engineering.

I came across your channel about a month ago, and it’s been really helpful! I’m an incoming UCSD student this fall, and I’ll be majoring in Math-CS as well.

My interest in computer science had to start in senior year (lol) but it is too late to take any AP/regular computer science classes.
Will I be too held back because of this? I want to get into good programs but I really have nothing to show for it, other than side projects. Thanks!

Thank you for the video! I'm a high school senior going to college this fall and i do worry about my math being good enough since i took pre-calc but have forgotten some more simpler stuff. I find programming on its own really enjoyable. Is CS a good major or is software development/engineering better for people who arent super good at math?

Typical math question for CS.

I understand the math classes required. Everyone always says it's really just logic instead of pure math.

What does that "logic" even mean.

i passed the entrance exam on my university and im going to take "computer science". Can you give me an idea or tips coz i stopped 2yrs in school and i somehow forgot most of the basic programming that i learned from my teacher.
