Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak Review

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak reviewed by Tom Marks on PC, also available on Nintendo Switch.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is a relatively simple expansion, but that doesn't mean its top notch new and returning monsters aren't a whole lot of fun to fight. That said, Sunbreak isn't nearly as substantial or surprising as Iceborne was for Monster Hunter World, lacking fresh ideas beyond clever AI followers that are restricted to single-player hunts, and even abandoning Rampage quests without really trying to fill the gap their absence has left.

To those asking why we didn't talk more about the endgame, Capcom specifically restricted reviews from doing so. You can hear what we were able to say about it around 4:22. - Casey

He complains about how the expansion only adds more monsters to hunt and not much else... in a game that is about hunting monsters and not much else...

If anyone is curious he's just going to compare it to world and give it a 7.

Goes from saying there is nothing to replace rampages to talking about the thing that replaced rampages

looks like this review needs a review itself by the real hunters

Rise fixed the one thing people hate in the game of rise, and we give it a lower score for that? you trolling.

Iceborne added nothing to the monster Hunter formula aside from the clutch claw. In terms of mechanics Sunbreak added AI followers, a better endgame, and improved a lot on its combat system from the base game. IGN once again writing small brain reviews

Feels odd to give it a worse score than base rise no? Isn’t it overall an improvement of all of rises shortcomings and base mechanics? Albeit both r 8 and 7 so not terribly different

If it’s not Casey DeFreitas then it’s not a real Monster Hunter review 😛

Dear IGN,
Since you know Monster Hunter has such a passionate community, could you please have someone who is part of that community who works with you do the review? No offense but anyone can read something written by someone else.

I’m starting to think ign can’t count past 7

As expected, it would be a comparison of Sunbreak to Iceborne...

The follower quests are probably a test for Dragon's Dogma 2 and I'm up for it

Can't go wrong with Monster Hunter, awesome series, hope the quality continues for many years to come.

IGN has always been unfair to expansions even when they improve on literally everything from the base game. Remember when they gave Explorers of Sky, literally one of the best Pokemon game ever made, a 4.9?

This is probably my favorite game of 2022 and probably play till the next Monster Hunter. Ain't playing anything made by Activision, EA or Konami filth nowadays.

Very IGN of them to make world the basis for their review and not taking each mh installation as it's own version

What’s the point of a review when you haven’t even finished the game? This doesn’t even talk about endgame content 😂 IGN fails again. Why do they have millions of subs again?

Wow this review is definitely an IGN review
