When the third-generation model arrived in 2019 it was met with a degree of controversy. BMW decided to switch the car’s transmission from rear-wheel-drive to front-wheel-drive, which upset a lot of loyal 1 Series fans as this was something that distinguished the vehicle from its key rivals - the Audi A3 and Mercedes A-Class.

So, did this change make the 1 Series rather boring?

Drove a 70 plate manual 118i m sport today. Opinions:
+ well refined, nice ride, very nice quality interior, nice handling
-heavy clutch with low bite - hard to set off smoothly, quite heavy steering, gearbox is a bit “springy”/could be nicer to use. Felt a bit slower/more boring than I expected. 7/10 from me.

These are 19 inch alloys, 18 inch are standard on m sport .

On a daily basis I’m very Happy with my 1 series in M sport nevertheless with a growing family we struggle to fit everything in the 380L capacity boot when going away for long weekends or vacation. Will stick with the BMW brand but opt for a bigger option such as the X1 or potentially the new X2 in the next year

I will go for 1! When they started using this digital cockpit? Or is it part of some pack? What about ambient lighting through the trims? I want to go for about 2020-2021. Depends what I will find. Tom

Very stingy with the ambient lighting in this car. Not much leg space if your over 6 ft. But other than that im happy with mines

Im not a fan of BMW, but the interiors are nicely put together. I had a Cooper S, the trim inside was that really nice dense solid, slightly springy material that they use in BMWs. As for this 1 series. It looks bland from the outside. It's a washing machine with a BMW badge.
