UK farmers protest: mistrust, anger and blaming Bill Gates

Thousands of farmers gathered in central London to protest changes to inheritance tax announced by the new Labour government.

Inherited agricultural assets like family farms that are worth over £1 million would be taxed at 20% - they were previously exempt from the tax. Farmers at the protest tell the Guardian that this change will mean they won’t be able to continue working on their family farms. Amongst the anger at the new inheritance tax changes is mistrust of politicians, fears over the future of farming in the UK and conspiracy theories.

Why was Bill Gates, the biggest farmland owner in America, meeting Starmer two weeks prior to this new tax?

One of the reasons farmers are angry is Starmer told the NFU there would be no tax rises for farmers. That was before the election when he wanted farmers to vote Labour.

Starving the people into submission will not end well 🤷‍♀️

Strut & Parker farmland database - more than half the farmland bought in the UK 2023 was bought by non-farmers, 400k acres taken out of British food production.

Twenty Dukes own a million acres. Tax the rich! The rest of us have nothing left to give.

😂 The Guardian is a joke, putting in your papers about people being far right for supporting farmers, you should be ashamed

This is part of the plan, control the farms, control the type of food produced, gmo etc

I will remind you:

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland has/had 48, 208, 507 registered voters.

The Labour Party collected 9, 708, 716 of the available votes.

So -

79.86% of registered voters - citizens able to vote - DID NOT vote for the Labour Party.

4 out of 5 eligible voters DID NOT vote for the Labour Party.

Everyone I've noticed who thinks the farmers deserve this doesn't understand liquidity or assets at all.
Let's say I was given a castle with a huge estate attached, I now have millions in assets but I also have to maintain the buildings, land, and animals that come with it.
Which is normal for any assets from cars, homes, shops etc. That doesn't also mean I have millions of cash in the bank to maintain any of that though.
No one is automatically saying every homeowner, car owner, or shop owner is super rich so why do they think that in this case?

I also don't see who this helps? The government might get a lot of money via inheritance tax (I doubt it will go towards helping the people) but at the expense of a family losing their home, and a country losing its ability to produce its own food putting us at risk and most likely pumping up food prices. Let's be real as well no one is buying land and farms worth millions in today's world unless you're a multinational corporation anyhow. It's just another asset grab by the wealthy and people "claiming" to support the working class is actually doing the complete opposite and supporting the rich they apparently hate.

Government departments don't want to deal with small businesses, they prefer to deal with a small number of large firms. In effect creating regulatory capture for our food supply.
