conversations are superficial because MANY people are more calculating than I realized, in business and even outside of work.
They put their attention toward people that they think can help them and will often act differently once someone with money or power comes around, even if it isn't an important social interaction, it just becomes a habit and I don't think a lot of people are even aware they are acting this way. I am not superficial, but I am not a genius either. Just do what I can to get by in this life the best I can.
I think a lot of people put way to much effort into a job, not realizing jobs often come and go and its often outside your control. Even in sales, you might have a downturn in the industry, or have a sales manager that plays favorites. i had a friend who used to look up to a sales person, as if they were something special because they made the most money, then years later it was revealed this sales person had a person connection to the sales manager. no matter how hard the other sales staff worked, they weren't going to get more success if they stayed.
