I like those not so timeless images... yes, selective colour can look awful, but it can make for a stunning piece of art too

As always Pye. Bro. Thank you. Great tips. As usual. I agree 100%. Okay, maybe 99.98%.

There's also a time and place for most of that stuff. But that's the exception. Not how it should be done with most your photos. Like, less than 1% of all your photos could be selective colour. My brother has a piece of art on his wall where the selective colour works well. Again. The exception. And it's not a wedding photo or portrait.

I used to be bad at way over contrasting my images. I like to think I'm better now. But I still catch myself sometimes. It's reminders like this that help. Thank you.

2 WORDS FOR YA! "X PAC!" I'm paraphrasing of course 😉😉

Another terrifically practical video, Pye. Thank you. I would like to add another "don't", that is don't reflexively click-on "Dehaze" in LR or "Clearview" in DxO Photo Lab. Further, when they do need to be used, play around with the slider to avoid overdoing it.

Ok I’ll try to adjust contrast last, and see if it changes anything.

Nice video.

I'm not in love with editing to trends, either, but if they pay at the time then they pay at the time. They're the client's pictures. (Just include some more timeless edits, too.)

The worst trend, that I GUARANTEE plenty of "don't do trends" photographers do is the overly contrasted monochrome on someone face. That's even worse than selective color, which I have no doubt will be coming back in style sooner or later.

But maybe the overly contrasted monochrome of an elderly person's face isn't even a trend, but more like basic trash taste in photography.

Anyway, pretty good list and the basic advice of editing towards leaning into the STORY and existing elements already in the image is 1000% rock solid. That's the take!

would you do something related to choosing a photo print house? as in a professional printing house?

#4 as a sports photographers, people steal your images all the time. Not necessarily to sell and use as their own to make money, but athletes, especially high schoolers, steal the shit out of them.

You forgot one really classic mistake Pye. Demon eyes, I see it a lot on Instagram when photographers turns up the exposure and whitening on eyes (and teeth) so it looks more like a demon crazy look.
Merry Christmas

i would add maybe one more to your list. I call it "The Plastic Doll Syndrome". editing fashion with over cooked dodging and burning. Adding excessive amounts of either makes images look so fake and compromises the beauty of the model. Ok i had to get that one out other than that...bro!!! nice work as usual.

Thans for another useful video with worthwhile tips. I have #6 for you. Avoid trying to be Jared P and Peter M with over-stylized jumps and extra-cutsiness. It doesn't add to the message.

Big yes to number 3. I cringe when I see an entire wedding that was edited with the current trend that everything looks orange and the greens are super desaturated. Also I have had plenty of images stolen and they used them to promote counterfeit products for Chinese websites. Sad thing was they didn't even crop out my watermark.

Bro Bro Bro...If you do all these things I tell you not to do, the world will know you're a newbie.
