U.S. 'desperate' to hold talks with Russia after Putin freezes nuclear treaty; 'Can Sit And Talk...'

The United States is seeking to hold talks and discuss implementation of the New START nuclear arms control treaty with Russia. Speaking to the Washington Post, U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland said that the U.S. would like to get back to mutual inspections and sit at a table to discuss implementation of the treaty. The latest signal of discussing the treaty with Russia comes just days after President Vladimir Putin halted Moscow's participation in the treaty. U.S. President Joe Biden called Russia's move a 'big mistake'.

I would take the same decision if i were Pres. Putin. America could not be trusted to implement the treaty. So there was no valid reason for Russia to abide by it. It served America right.

I'm from the UK, yet two of my favourite politicians were in this clip: Putin & Lavrov. Both are experienced geopolitical players. And, while there is some gamesmanship, there is nowhere near the amount of bluster and sabre rattling, done by the west. I suppose the White House is rattled as they know that Putin does not do things lightly. He is a much more measured politician, with the excellent Lavrov at his side.

Especially with Nuland involved, Russia should refuse to engage in any nuclear arms treaty at this time. This would take Russia's nuclear weapons off the table which they need to have during this war. If Russia ever does consider a nuclear treaty, the removal of Nuland from ANY involvement with the U.S. government should be a precondition.

What is worrying US is the fact that they’ve lost the initiative!! Before they knew where Russian nuclear warheads are stationed and how powerful they are! Now they don’t! Also one thing people seems to forget is the US inspectors have been unlimited access to those sites, however, according to Putin, there was no reciprocation when Russia tried to visit the US nuclear facilities sites! Anytime the Russian inspectors tried, they were denied visa entry!!

If USA wants co-operation from Russia on nuclear arms control, then USA should stop adopting confrontational posture and actions against Russia by supplying weapons to ukraine and hope to keep Russia engaged in a proxy war with USA and nato using ukraine as a proxy, USA has to choose between co-operation with Russia, or confrontation with Russia whichever and whenever it suits USA's interest.
