Alien: Romulus stands out as one of 2024's most immersive sci-fi films, thanks to these three key technical aspects of its filmmaking.

-Description

Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986) were my favourite Sci-Fi films. While its follow-up movies might be a hit or miss with fans, its most recent release Alien: Romulus promised to bring the franchise back to its basics, with an extra emphasis put on the film's horror aspects and also on improving the technical side of its filmmaking.

After watching the film, I can confidently say that it delivered on all fronts and director Fede Alvarez has produced one of the most immersive movies of the year. In this video, I'll be taking a look at the 3 key technical aspects of Alien: Romulus’ filmmaking that has made it such an immersive film for me.

I loved the purity of the first two films, in that the Xenomorphs were perfect killing machines & badasses, like a Great White Shark with limbs, & the acid blood & telescopic teeth were the icing on the cake! Alien 3 was ok, but no Alien remake that it tried to be, & killing off the two protagonist's at the start was like betrayal (esp after what Newt had been through, poor kid!). From then on they keep messing with the Alien, giving it human features or traits, I get it (cloning, hybrids etc) but it mostly didn't/doesn't work. The Mummy Ripley scene at the end of Resurrection was comical (& wasn't meant to be), if it ain't broke....

Yah I'm a huge Alien (s) franchise fan, but I found this to be a huge letdown, and I was not expecting that. It tries way too hard to be like the original, but I wasn't impressed with the casting and the plot in general. The timeline makes very little sense as well.

Yes it's a great looking technically adept film, but it's entirely devoid of substance. Every single element of the story is just rehashing one of the movies preceding it. No, wait, I do have to give credit where due. The cryo pods were used in a creative way unlike any previous movie, and we've never seen a WY android reboot or upgrade before. But plot points, scenes, lines of dialog, it's like they put the franchise in a blender and this came out.

i experienced this movie very similar to yours, i think maybe the deepfake of Ian Homes on the malfunctioning adroid was delibrately made more janky in movements to covey its extent of damage and it made it more unsettling to me in a good way!
