To find the sign of work done, check if the direction of the force and the displacement are the same or not. If they are in the same direction, work is positive, else it's negative. When moved slowly, work done by an external force on a charge is always in the opposite direction of work done by the electric force.

I have a question about the part at 7:19. Since we know the negative test charge will be attracted towards the positive source charge, the force due to the electric field on the test charge will point downward. However, the electric field should point upward then because negative test charges will feel a force in the opposite direction of the electric field. Doesn't this mean that the electric field does positive work because it is moving in the same direction of the displacement? And wouldn't the external force be doing negative work because it is going in the opposite direction of displacement? just a concern of mine. Thank you

In first case direction of electic force is in the same direction of that of electric field then why it's not positive and also the ext. force which is in the opp direction of electric field is not negative why?
