Just a friendly reminder: When retirees from the USA pay high rents for housing in Mexico, it drives up prices for everyone. This makes it difficult for local residents, who usually have lower incomes, to afford housing. Please consider how your rent payments impact the local community and try to negotiate fair rents. Your understanding and consideration can make a big difference!

Summary: In this video, Cindy and Fred live in a beach town in Mexico for $1500 per month, renting a house for $250 per month. They give a tour of their house and discuss their budget home makeover, the cost of living in Mexico, the weather, safety, and their friend Natalia gives a tour of a three-bedroom rental home in the beach town of La Crucesita, Huatulco, Mexico.

Cindy and Fred have been living in Mexico for 25 years and 5 years, respectively. They rehabbed their rental house, adding a new kitchen, dining area, living room, and more. Their monthly budget, excluding food, is $1050. This includes two internet services, housekeeping, car maintenance, purified water, electricity (including air conditioning), and more. They spend 10, 000 pesos ($500) on healthy food, including fresh fruits, vegetables, and fish.

The area they live in is safe and has a low crime rate. Huatulco is known for its nine bays, 36 beaches, whale-watching, turtle releases, and more. The city has purified water and is eco-friendly, with many natural reserves.

For transportation, Cindy and Fred use ATVs and walk, as everything is close in their town. A nearby rental home in a safe residential neighborhood costs 15, 000 pesos per month, including internet but not utilities. The area has local restaurants, taxis, and is a short walk to the beach and downtown.

In Huatulco, rental prices vary depending on the season and the type of home. A house with a swimming pool can cost around 35, 000 pesos per month, while a two-story unfurnished house can cost 7, 000 to 8, 000 pesos per month. Condominiums are also available for around $84, 000.

Cindy and Fred also share some information about obtaining residency in Mexico and their experience living in the country. Overall, they are very happy living in Mexico and appreciate the acceptance and kindness of the local people.

This is so wonderful to see that older people can retire very comfortably on their pension and social security. I would buy a small house so I wouldn't have to pay rent every month. This couple has found their niche and seems to be very happy in Mexico. Good luck to them.

I've been there twice. It's an incredible place. There are beautiful waterfalls with Caribbean blue water not far from there. You can get a 2 hour spa with 1 hour massage for $30.
