Years later, and your videos on Locating are still very helpful and knowledgeable
I go for my certification tomorrow and I'm very nervous, only because I wasn't trained on Cable..
But I have a feeling my Supervisor is going to throw a Surprise in there...
Wish me luck !!

Thanks Mark! Happened to stumble upon this video. I’ve been locating north of Albany for almost 2 years now and def felt the burnout until recently. My moral has improved.

I just started training today. And they said right off the back it may not be for everyone. I use to work for a major utility company in the office and heard and seek the horror stories. Thank you again and look forward for more vids.

Very interested in this job… I’ve been the Direct Care/ DSP/ CNA gig for 10 years… and ready for a change. Just ready to actually be on my feet and out moving. So not having no experience in this field kinda sketches me out. But I really respect and really looking into this field…

Make sure you're proficient at lying to excavators too! Filing false ticket reschedules, making false claims, and taking 0 liability with gas mains rupture and catch fire. But hey - its not you taking the risk.

Hoping to get hired in this field. This question is actually for any utility locators out there but I gotta ask.

Q - Is it possible to end up working out in the woods or near forest areas? Has anyone come across wild and possibly dangerous animals? And if so would it actually be advized to bring some form of self protection considering you may possibly be working alone? As for animals considering where I love and if I do end up in this job usually may be Snakes, bores possibly even Panthers in some areas but I again don't know if I will be actually sent out to places like this if that is a thing or if you usually would be sent off to an area that is in the process of construction.

I’m set up for my second interview tomorrow. My question is how forgiving are they towards non. Violent felons. I’m no different then some but I’m worried about a previous marijuana felony from my youthful past, could fudge things up. Job like this doesn’t come my way often.

Im in the process of designing a backyard fruit orchard. I have a gas line and utilities running though my backyard making my back yard design difficult. My back yard is not the typical size. I don't want to plant my trees where they may cause issues with the gas lines. I have purchased several rare tropical fruit tree which will develop long tap roots. Right now my trees are still in the pots but I want to plant them soon. Can I get the gas line removed? The markings the locator placed show me then gas company just ran the major gas line in the middle of my largest side of my back yard. Any tips would be helpful. What if I went to put in a pond or a pool? Who is responsible to moving the gas line?

Hi Mark, I'm a Utility Surveyor in the UK. Just want to say thanks for your content. I really enjoy your videos and seeing how things are done over there. Great insight into the actual day to day of the job.

"Spray and pray!" Love that! Keep up the good work. :)

I’m becoming a utility locator and it’s hard. I am trying to do my best with my knowledge and what I know. And I have to go back and study it’s scary. Having so many depend on you. And there’s a lot of rules within my company which puts a lot of worry on my shoulders. I know I’ll fuck up. And I’ll give it my best. But if I don’t make it. I just know I tried. And I gave it my all. I do have TBI. and I have very short term memory. So maybe working wasn’t a good idea haha I should have handled my issues first then work. I feel like I have already failed. But imma try.

Hey mark, been subbed ever since thinking about becoming a utility locator! I’m from Texas in the Fort Worth area I just started field training and I’m loving it so far, by far the easiest money I’ve made. Only negative so far is our heat and of course I’m with USIC. We don’t even really have to locate gas lines at all because of Atmos. Only problem I’m having so far is getting down the equipment and splice cases & ATT cross boxes.
