DEBUNKED: Trump's tariffs raise prices for U.S. consumers, not foreign countries

Donald Trump is touting his plans to make America a “tariff nation,” claiming that his tariffs would not raise taxes for Americans but instead for countries like China and the European Union. However, @sorkinsays explained on #MorningJoe that the reality is quite different. Tariffs push the cost onto U.S. consumers, meaning everyday Americans end up paying more for products at stores like Walmart, debunking Trump’s claims.

“When you put a tariff on a product, it is not that the other country gets taxed per se, it’s that the cost gets pushed onto the consumer here in the U.S... How Trump can speak the way he does about what he thinks the tariff is going to do — it’s just not the reality of the situation.”

If a company in China makes 1, 000 Rubik's Cubes for $1 each and sells it to the U.S. for $5, they make a gross of $5, 000
If Trump adds a 10% middleman markup (tariff/tax) the government collects $500, but it comes from the U.S. consumer who is now paying $5.50, but the company in China is still grossing its $5, 000.
The purpose of tariffs is to have consumers buy a domestically made similar product (IF there is one) because it is now the cheaper alternative. If there isn’t a U.S. alternative, the consumer just pays more.

My company had items affected by Trump tariffs. That equipment is used for water quality. We raised the prices of our equipment to compensate. Guess what the guys we sold them to did? They raised the prices they sold them at too? Guess what the companies that had to buy the water equipment do? Well, notice any of your bills being higher?
