Parts of the Gulf Coast measured a foot of snow on Tuesday. For many cities, the totals obliterated long-standing snowfall records. Milton, Florida recorded 9 inches of snow, which more than doubles the all-time statewide Florida record of 4 inches.

Past mass extinctions weren't associated with a cold or hot climate state specifically, but rather with the swings between the two states during the change. It was the wild swings that killed off the vegetation, the base of the food chain. That research is about 5 to 10 years old. I can get the references if requested, I just don't recall them at the moment.

The gradual cooling might be reversed by using solar dish mirror energy systems that are much more efficient and are not flammable. A cubic meter of water can store a day's worth of cooling or heating for a small fraction of the cost of a lithium battery. Most household energy use is for cooling and heating. The rest can be stored in lead acid batteries that do not have the same fire problems as lithium batteries.
With abundant solar energy, the solar dishes might be used to remove cloud cover. A million 10, 000 watt microwave/solar dishes focused at one point would create a ball of plasma in the sky that could quickly remove the cloud cover from a large area. 1000 square kilometers of solar power is about a trillion watts. Multiplied by a thousand times across the globe might be enough to offset the gradual cooling caused by the orbital cycles of the Earth.

But you can fight viruses. That we couldn't fight back in the day.
