Concentric bushings: boring bar vs reamer

preview_player
Показать описание
In this video I need to make bushings to adapt a cup wheel to a different size arbor. Close tolerances on the need of the bushings to be concentric.

I'll machine the bushings using the two methods and I'll compare the results on the granite table within .0001" of an inch.

You'll be amazed by the results...

Thanks for watching, I hope you enjoy, feel free to like, comment and subscribe, Pierre

Thanks Pierre, always good to remind us of the difference, and make better educated decisions.

Nice Job Pierre - sure proves a point for sure.  Have to say, I too would always choose to finish my bore with boring tool rather than ream. Enjoyed the video thank you.

Hi Pierre,
That was indeed an interesting lesson on concentricity.  Thanks!

The fellow at Suburban Tool recommends household ammonia for cleaning a granite surface plate.  It's not as tempting to sample as the Everclear, but it will open up your sinuses.  LOL!  :)

Nice demo on the concentrencity.  I have been using denatured alachol but I am now changing to something smoother.   Love the humor.  Thanks, Randy

Timely video for me. I've been making bushings the last couple days and I was contemplating getting a reamer to make it faster. Then I noticed I had run out after drilling when I entered with the boring bar. It got me to wondering if a reamer would correct that or follow the hole. Now I know! Thanks Pierre! I think I'll have to go try that alcohol for cleaning thing too! :)

Wow! I had the idea that a reamer was the best. Now I know better. Thanks! Boring bar here I come.

Nicely done Pierre!  I have always had the opinion that a drill bit is a "roughing tool" and that a ream just cleans up (and opens a bit) the bore.  Nice to have it proven.

Bribing QC with your surface plate cleaner I see. lol Single point cuts in my experience are always the easiest to make accurate and leave the best finish, but they do tend to take more time so it is of course a tradeoff depending on the needs of the project.  Interesting to see just how far out the reamed hole was. Thanks for the educational video.

MUY BUEN VIDEO. VERY NICE VIDEO. I USED SHORT DRILLS, AND I CUT THE SHANK OF MY REAMER, WITH THE IDEA " THE DRILL DON´T SHAKE", AND HELP TO HAVE A BETTER HOLE AND REAMER. BEST REGARDS FROM MEXICO CITY
