Geographic tongue. A short video of about geographic tongue & my experience so far.

After seeing a specialist it’s nothing to worry about & is harmless.

They don’t have a cure or even know what causes it.

However you should always see your own doctor about any problems you have.

So I highly recommend going to your local pharmacy and picking up a bottle of b12. It worked for me. I wouldn't say that it cures it but as long as you're taking b12 you'll very rarely see it again and rarely if ever get to the point where its painful. I've had geo tounge for about a year and that's been my go to solution. Studies I've read suggest that geo tounge is either a form of psoriasis or a symptom of something going on in your stomach. since nobody really knows I can only say from my experience that staying away from bread and pasta, taking b12 and swiging some apple cider vinegar with the mother every once in awhile will help immensely

I’ve had this for years. B vitamins help and it gets more intense when I have periods of stress.

I do coconut oil pulling twice a day, rinse mouth with salty water after brushing teeth, take multi vitamin, eat yogurt with probiotic and chew gums a few times a day to stimulate saliva secretion. They worked for me, especially oil pulling and chewing gum helped reduce burning sensation and promote healing. Hope it is helpful to you guys

Good to hear from you.
I have had this for 2 years. I have not been to a doctor yet. But my friend who is a doctor said it looks like Geographic tongue. I don't have any soreness or pain. Just that that patches become less or more from time to time. Sometimes they completely disappear and come back again.

I am seeing lot of people comment here and I feel I want to get in contact with all of you to hear if any change in diet helps.

I have had what was previously diagnosed as geographic tongue for 5 or 6 years. Recently my tongue started bleeding so my dentist referred me to an ENT specialist for a tongue biopsy. The ENT specialist diagnosed the problem as oral lichen planus and put off doing a biopsy until it starts bleeding again. He prescribed an oral corticosteroid cream which has been enough to manage flare ups to prevent the bleeding from starting again. I have had several autoimmune diseases for decades. Oral lichen planus is an autoimmune disease as well and is most likely related to or an extension of the other autoimmune diseases. I have read that what appears on your tongue may reflect the condition of the mucosal surfaces of he rest of your digestive tract. I recommend being tested for food sensitivities and following an anti-inflammatory diet to try to lessen inflammation.

I was told once that its an immune response. Somethings going on inside (nothing serious). Since changing my diet I haven't had a flare up for a month. I've had it all my life.

Hi everybody, I too am a GT sufferer, had it for about 5/6 months now and getting a bit fed up with it. About a month ago it almost cleared up apart from a small white dot on the front of the tongue, unfortunately it came back with a vengeance mainly on the tip.Sometimes it's very sore, other times it's just a mild burning sensation .
I will certainly try the B12 tablets as I have nothing to loose .

I have been having this for last 6 years....! Even though I know it is harmless, it still makes me worry. I would have been Albert Einstein if had thought about something better in those sex years then worrying about something which has no cause and no future complications.

I’ve had this since I was 12. It was very inactive until I was about 25, and in the last 8-9 years, it’s been more or less constant for me. Nothing has helped. It hurts pretty bad, unfortunately, and really limits what I can eat.

Hi Andy, Great videos of your journey with Geographic Tongue. I've enjoyed them very much. Thank you for making and posting them.
I am a 62 yo female and have had a Geographic Tongue since I was an infant. Mine migrate/move around and I also sometimes get an enlarged taste bud or several at a time ~ don't know if it's a taste bud I'm just guessing ~ they're swollen and stick up higher than the rest of my tongue and are very painful with a constant burning sensation. Sorry I have no recommendations to help you with G.T. Just know that you are among a very small percentage of the human race that has one and hope you feel special having this anomaly! 🙂 P.S. The recommendation (below) of taking B12 has not helped mine at all.

I used yo see this when i was younger during times of drinking alcohol or eating bad diet but i brushed it off and felt it was stomach elated. Recently i was taking restorolax and heavy on fibers to get bowel movement and boom shock to the system here comes persistent geographic tongue, dry mouth burning mouth and extreme stress. It took a while aand i started improving diet, having pro biotics, gargling with salt and i see it less frequent. Yesterday i had mcdonalds cheesevurgers and today again lots of flare up. I am not a doctor but i do believe stress causes stomach issues and that reflects on your tongue. Bad food causes stress on your stomach tooo

I've never heard of this before until around April 12 of this year (2021). I got the COVID shot on April 9 and the next thing you know I had this happen to my tongue a few days later - in my entire life...I've never seen this before!

Greetings mate! I had this condition too that did not effect me until the age of 32. Similar to your experience I just noticed a weird looking white patch on one side of my tongue one morning while brushing. There was a mildly painful & tingling sensation with it. The patch evolved over time, and went away leaving a bright red colored area which was sensitive. This pattern repeated itself all over my tongue. In my mind I thought "Ok... this must be cancer". I reached out to my GP and she apparently had some experience with it. She informed me that she is sure it is Geographic Tongue and not cancer. She advised that I consult my Dentist and he was of the exact same opinion. The frustrating thing about it is that medical science has little to no idea what causes it. It is not proven to be due to diet, lifestyle, race. Or whether you eat certain food, are a heavy smoker or drinker etc.. I am literally the only person in my entire extended family who had Geographic tongue. Only good news is I have not had any patches in over 10 years. It literally disappeared on it's own. No magical cure to report on my end.

I have this and I’m convinced it was after I got a fluoride treatment. It has been very painful for the last 2 months.

I’ve been having GT for almost a year and my doctor told me the same things- that they don’t know what’s causing it and that it comes and goes and it’s harmless but I don’t think so. According to Chinese medicine the tongue indicates the condition of the digestive tract. There has to be something wrong here with the GT but what is it exactly I don’t know... I’ve just started my 40 days juice fats and I hope by the end I will see some changes

Hello mate, I
developed geographic tongue after going vegetarian, I don't know why but my tongue started going nuts after this change.
Now I always have this little burn in my tongue when I eat something, it appears and goes away in a couple of days, I still don't know what food triggers it.
I'm almost considering going back to a normal diet because of it.
