20-year-old woman dies after falling off Yosemite's Half Dome

Lost a good friend of mine there, decades ago, and knew a few others. People never learn- You're in the mountains. It is NOT a forgiving environment. Just because you "love it", or "care for nature"? DOES NOT MEAN it will "care for you".

"As of 2024, there have been 25 confirmed deaths on the cable section and the summit" The number of people that make the hike every year is 50, 000. From an article about her death, it stated in the last decade at least 9 people have died making this climb. Given those numbers it safer to make this trek than driving in a car (1 in 93 of dying in car crash)

The Permit system for the Half Dome hike actually increases the likelihood of deaths on the mountain because people lucky enough to land their permits feel pressured to make it to the top no matter what the conditions.

I did this climb in 2018. It is incredible. Definitely bring a harness so you can clip into the cables and u will have no problems.

I've hiked in the rockies, and when a storm comes in, shelter in place immediately. Half Dome is extremely exposed, but if it starts raining hold onto the chains and metal poles with everything you got.
