Cellular metabolism is essential for all cells to carry out their normal functions. Isocitrate dehydrogenase enzymes (IDH1 and IDH2) help generate metabolites and provide energy for cells to carry out their normal functions. IDH enzymes catalyze the conversion of isocitrate to alpha-ketoglutarate (α-KG), an important metabolite that is required by DNA- and histone-modifying enzymes to regulate DNA and histone methylation. DNA and histone methylation helps modulate gene expression by turning genes on and off -including those that are important for cellular differentiation.
