Fun fact: “Mountain dew” was originally slang for moonshine brewed in secret during the prohibition, when alcohol was made entirely illegal in the 1920’s. They had to do it way out in the woods so they wouldn’t get found out. Moonshine brewers would make special shoes with deer hooves attached to the bottom so when they walked out into the woods to reach their distillery, it was easier to blend their tracks in with local wildlife to throw the cops off their trail.

The old mascot of Mountain Dew (yes, Mountain Dew used to have a mascot named Willy the Hillbilly) was a country moonshiner who would scream “Ya-hoo, it’s Mountain Dew!”, which was a throwback to the root of the name’s origin.

Mountain Dew was invented as a chaser for moonshine which is why it's named after a nickname for moonshine. As much as I hate gentrified (factory made) moonshine, it's so dumb to me that they made a mountain dew seltzer in a time when you can buy corn whiskey at any liquor store.
