We take a look at the ThinkPad T480 & T580 - 14" &15.6" respectively. Very functional machines. With the Core i7 processor, upto 64GB RAM, dual-battery setup & its excellent keypad, one could observe that ThinkPad T480 has not aged much since its launch & is very capable still. We also get to look at ThinkPad T580 - ThinkPad T480's bigger 15.6" sibling.

Thanks, useful comparission. I think the T580 might be used by architecture and building design students, also accountants might find the seperate numerical keys worthwhile.

I just bought the 580, I need to study on it so I need the larger screen for reading and writing long hours. It's because I can't travel with a desktop in my suitcase but I need something similar to a desktop.

Getting a t580 tomorrow and can't wait, gonna swap out the keyboard for the backlit version and install a 512gb ssd along with 32gb 2400 ram, can't wait!
More than enough for programming and the larger screen is a big bonus for IDE's, the numpad is a personal preference but I much prefer it over the top row numbers.
Total cost around 400 euro, which considering the features is infinitely better than a crappy new laptop with a mobile processor and 4gb of unupgradable ram.

I just bought my first ever t480. Can't wait to throw Linux on it and start web-devving in a distraction free environment (my main PC has way too much crap to distract and procrastinate)

The T480 is superior to its successors, in nearly every important way.

I consider myself luck to have found brand new T480 with my preferred specs of 16Gb ram, i5, 1Tb NVMe, and addition of 72Whr battery, I'm getting 16 hours battery with amazing performance and if not watching Netflix.... Lenovo dropped the bridge battery on its T400 and X200 series laptops will prove a big loss to them in the long term.
My 5¢ thx

The T480/T580 are unfortunately the last modular Thinkpads.

I recently bought a T580 but now I am slightly regretting it seeing that the T480 has a more sturdy chassis and frame, should I be regretting it or i the T580 still a strong unit too? The T580 was a LOT cheaper used in the same spec and conditions is all.

Thank you for the perfect video, I have a question, I want to buy a ThinkPad laptop and I couldn't decide between E15 and T580 yet. The E15 has intel 10Gen processor and T580 has 8.gen. Additionally, E15 is better for Ram frequencies. However, people said that T580 is better very sturdy, and useful. What is your opinion about this situation? Hardware or sturdy and Longevity. If you would buy a laptop, which you preferred? Finally, E15 will be zero product, but T580 will be the second hand: :)

The reason why the T580 laptop is discontinued is because it has a problem with cooling. I own one and it broke down 1 month after, when I was submitting my school work, it turned to backscreen without a warning. I tried everything, the repairshops tried everything as well. But it still won't work. It is a CPU or GPU problem.

It looks the same as a cheap laptop from a market. As I am aware Lenowo cut the t-light, latches, roll cage ... to save 100 gram? The last Thinkpad which remained me a true IBM type Thinkp pad was 530. Build like tank - for active, strong men ..
