Travel around the world to visit some of nature’s most incredible snakes: vipers, and find out which are the most dangerous.

--

As of 2021, there are 368 species of viper worldwide. The name comes from the term viviparity, which means giving birth to live young. Vipers are often highly venomous, with two hollow, extra long fangs that unfold into imposing weapons when the viper prepares to strike. So, which are the most dangerous? Andrew Whitworth travels around the world to visit some of nature’s most incredible snakes.

From someone who is afraid of snakes, thank you. Now I'm even more afraid.

I think snakes are beautiful but that doesn't stop me from being utterly terrified by them

I love how happy all the snakes look. Adorable!

One time my mom rescued a garter snake from a scared neighbor. We kept it as a pet. Found out the snake was a pregnant mother, who gave birth to 8 cute little noodles. We eventually released them back into the wild after a few weeks.

And here I am who gets chills at the mere thought of snakes, clicking on the video thumbnail, thinking that the video is about how to alleviate one's fear of snakes. Well played TedEd, well played.

Have been studying animals for years, yet I admit to just learning about the spider tailed horned viper just today from this video. Shows that knowledge means to still learn surprising new things, and that that species of snake is freaking awesome!

I visited a pet fair at the beginning of this year. They had reptiles and snakes too there. I didn't really have an opinion for snakes before, but after seeing some of the smoothest, prettiest snakes at the event, I think they're pretty amazing.

Also, kudos to the animators for drawing such cute, chonky snakes 🥺

The narrator seems to just love these creatures!! Nice narration.
And the gaboon viper smiling at the skulls really helps with our fears 😀

as someone living in Australia, snakes are absolutely terrifying lol but they're still amazing, beautiful creatures!

For those who are familiar with the metric system:
At 3:31: "It must be large enough to defend its nest--in fact, the bushmaster is the largest viper in the world, reaching lengths of over 3 meters with huge fangs and deadly venom."

I absolutely love animals except for a major problem where the texture of snakeskin or simply their movement pattern makes me want to shut my eyes and curl up into a ball. I’m not sure why I’m this scared but it keeps me miles away from learning anything about these fascinating creatures. Thank you for making sure the animation and narration are so cute. This kind of exposure is less likely to give me nightmares!

@0:30 ... "from the safety of your own home" ... unless you're from Australia or Florida, then you're on your own.
