As the coronavirus outbreak reaches pandemic proportions, fear and worry are sadly also rising, thanks to the steady increase in the number of cases and subsequent deaths. While seeing food and household items flying off store shelves is to be expected, hoarding toilet paper rolls is pushing it.

The only item to remain on the shelves, however, is the unfortunately named Corona beer, as some mistakenly think it to be the cause of its namesake virus. There is absolutely no way you can get COVID from a sip of Corona, yet many can’t help but wonder – can you get coronavirus through food? Watch to find out.

If the cook/chef has corona who's making your food? if the server who packages your food has corona? if the delivery man carrying your food package has corona? even if there's a no-touch process with some food deliveries, there's still that 3 checkpoints of possible contamination. :/

when grocery shopping, I worry about the produce sitting out for anyone to touch. Make sure to wash it well when you get home.

The actual meat is not what I'm worried about.

People touching that meat to deliver to me is what I'm worried about

Sick person goes through drive through and hands them money. Dollar bills and change that's contaminated. Server puts the money into the drawer and touches the next customer in lines drinks to get the ready, then throws some ketchup packets into their bag too. The sick customer drives away and the healthy customer pulls up. Now they get handed their drinks and bag, etc.. or the change the sick customer gave them.
Everything about this screams bullshit. But why?
Why would they say it's ok?

They say "They are not aware" of covid-19 being transmitted through food or packaging. It would be VERY difficult for a person to be aware that the food they ate caused coronavirus. Plus they say cooking destroys it but how about bread which is cool temperature and desserts which are cold and shakes and sodas???

WASH fruit and veg before consuming. WASH your hands anytime you get a chance to. Stay safe everyone.

US CDC says the virus can be present in an infected persons feces. When you get sick at a restaurant, it's not usually spoiled food, it's someone who didn't wash their hands thoroughly after using the restroom. There are no cases where someone contracted the virus through the fecal/oral transmission route as of right now. However, I am not taking chances with restaurants during this time because I am a high risk individual.

Seriously, you should not be reporting on such an important issue with your standard of journalism. Different viruses have different viability rates, it all depends on the surface. According to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, a Mar 17 study has found the Covid-19 virus can remain viable in aerosol form for up to 3 hours, and on flat smooth surfaces for more than three days, but on porous surfaces like cardboard and tissue paper, it was viable for less than 24 hours. This seems to be very similar to regular influenza viruses. This study is published in the New England Journal of Medicine (forgot the title).
Food is usually treated at high temperature which deactivates the virus, just avoid raw and unpackaged foods.

Contamination after cooking is my worry especially foods that sit in baskets or under a heat lamp

I enjoy cooking so I’ve never been one to eat out much anyway. I’m also a germaphobe. Way before we even heard of the CoronaVirus I cringed after watching people scratching their face and then touching food. Plus it’s so expensive to eat out now, the quality is not always good, it’s risky - so why eat out?

I just think its taking a chance if you go out to eat! So dont get mad if you get the virus when you could have packed your own food or cooked yourself!

after food is ready its the surface like any other. people making the take away food do not wear masks. so they can contaminate that food after its already finishwd cooking. so you can clean your packages and hands, but food inside? maybe heat?
