Shein, started by U.S.-born entrepreneur, Chris Xu, was initially a wedding dress retailer with the name “Sheinside” and after changing its name to Shein, it introduced a wide variety of fashionable products, from party dresses to beach wear, targeting the younger generation.
Shein’s strategic use of social media marketing and influencer collaborations in social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram quickly boosted their popularity among young fashion-conscious consumers.
Unfortunately, Shein had been making the headlines for the wrong reasons, being embroiled in a series of controversies such as poor working environment and unethical business practices, having disturbing messages in its clothing, stealing or copying designers’ work and the recent Shein’s Influencer Trip Backlash with fashion influencers / YouTuber like Dani Carbonari.
