For the steam engine, it reminds me of a game jam project I worked on in which I tried rigging the movement of wheels and pistons in a train engine. Could be worth it just to see the mechanics of how all the parts work with one another. Or you could attach it to something like a car model or other steam punk entity.

I tried watching c# tutorials but they went in from one ear and came out the other.
